Prepping for UPP?

Would Meg's MPPC be a suitable prep product for UPP? I'm thinking of buying either AIO or UPC, but I really should use up what I already have first.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
I have used UPP over some products that are not usually reccomended with very good results. The only thing that seems to suffer is the durability. I would definitely Give the MPPC a try. It is a prep product that cleans the paint. UPP takes on some of the look of the polish that is used prior to its application; for example ... UPC under UPP equals a brighter finish while AIO under UPP equals a warmer glow. I know this is more than you probably wanted to know ... I say try it :)

I've only used MPPC as a base coat for MPPP, but I don't see why a MPPC/UPP combo wouldn't work. MPPC is an excellent chemical cleaner that leaves the surface squeaky clean though it doesn't add much gloss. As kimwallace indicated, UPP will take on the characteristics of the preceding layer. You may be able to get a brighter or glossier look out of a different prep product, but a few layers of UPP should even things out. Give it a try, then let us know how you like it.

I'd go for the AIO anytime.

Most members on here will agree that AIO is one of the MOST versatile weapons in their arsenal. You can use 4* UPC (That's what's RECOMMENDED) or you can use AIO. AIO and UPP weren't exactly DESIGNED to work with each other, but who can argue with the success that others on here have had?

I, personally, have not ever used UPC. I have some on the way, and look forward to trying it out. AIO is my paint cleaner/prep of choice to prep the surface for UPP.

I've always used AIO to prep before putting UPP or NXT, and always had good result. Recently I tried Meguiar's ColorX, and I have to admit...I was speechless by the smooth and acrylic surface. It almost had the same UPP look by just using ColorX. I'm trying FP+ColorX+NXT+VCW this weekend and see how I like it.

No way! The more you share the more I learn! Thanks!

Is there a cleaner that "leaves nothing behind?". I want something to clean and strip and then leave a bare canvass for the product I want to try out. So that I'm looking at "just" UPP or whatever I have chosen to use. Any thoughts appreciated.

Aloha Mike, to get your surface down to the bare bones , try rubbing alcohol/water mix 50/50 . Put it in a spray bottle and spritz the surface after buffing for a clean surface . Then wax away.

Three products that come to mind:
1. UPC ... cleans the paint but leaves a slight amount of the same ingredients that are in UPP. Very shiny, clean look.
2. Adam's Revive .. chemically cleans the paint as well; not supposed to leave anything behind ... Very clean look
3. Poorboy's SSR1 ... this is a swirl remover but I use it as a last step polish because it looks very reflective and wet, but leaves nothing behind.
I am sure there are more but these are some I have experience with.
Good luck ... and have fun experimenting :)

I am in the minority here, but I prefer UPC as a prep for UPP as opposed to AIO. I just like the look a bit better, both are about as easy to work with as you can get.

If you want something that cleans the paint and leaves nothing behind I would look into PB's pro polish.

Mike,

I ordered UPP from Dwayne a few weeks ago and asked a similiar question. I had planned to use AIO as a base since I have gallons of the stuff. Dwayne talked me into forking out another $9.99 for UPC, saying that UPC was designed/formulated around the same time as UPP with the intent of being a good base/bonding coat to UPP. That said, for under 10 bucks, I'd probably get the UPC and use it to compare against your Meg's base coat.

I went ahead and used the MPPC and so far have 2 coats of UPP on my car. Looks GREAT!!! I'll try and post some pics soon. Almost got in an accident on my way to work this morning...looking at the reflections off of the hood as I drove instead of where I was going!
Now my next question...I see the deal at PAC for the 4* Car Wash. I still have an 1/8 of a gallon of Gold Class and a whole gallon of NXT wash I haven't used yet.
I've been going a lil nuts lately picking up new products to use(garage is starting to look like a detailing store!) As much as I would like to take advantage of this offer, I'm feeling the need to use up products I already have(such as above with the MPPC). Would the 4* wash help with durabilty of the UPP or can I use my Meg's washes up?
If I go for the 4* Wash offer, of course I'll have to throw a few extra things in to make paying shipping worth it. I'm just trying to show a lil restraint here! Thanks for any advice.
