Prepping for a 3M Invisible Bra Install

Hi All,

I'm getting an invisible bra installed and I'm wondering if I should do anything special to prep for it.

It's got 2,200Km's on it and already has been claybarred, and it has Zaino Z5, Z6, Z5 and then z6 on it..

I'm wondering if I should just wash the car, put a layer of Z2 on it, z6 it and take it over to the guy.

Suggestions? Experiences?

THANKS!

Agreed with meticulousman. I have had a clear bra installed on all of my vehicles to date. It is important to have nothing on the paint where the clear bra will be installed so that the adhesive properly bonds to the paint and not the product on the car.

Other than that, the clear bra's are awesome. It has definitely saved my paint from rock chips, bug guts, etc. A great investment!

No need to put anything on the paint because it will have to be removed to apply the clear bra. You should make sure that you have the paint in the condition you want (no marring, swirls or chips, etc.) before the bra is put on or you will have to live with the defects.

I noticed you live in Waterloo, not far from me. Where are you having the bra installed?

Thumbs up on everything posted. Going to the dealer to pick up some touch up paint for my 6, I saw an RX-8 parked. It had the bra. Good install, but the swirls were sealed in! I wouldn't have noticed it if you guys hadn't got me hooked on this darn site!

Is this stuff permanent? I was thinking about getting some film to put on my rocker panels on my Tacoma for the winter. But I would like to remove them during the summer.

Is this something I can do myself???

bikefreak: this stuff is not permanent but it does take some work to get off. Why would you want to take it off? I have had clear bras on all of my cars, i.e. front, hood, rockers, by gasoline caps, wheel wells, door sills, etc. and am completely sold on it. The stuff is pretty invisible depending on what color car you have (white is not a good color for this polyurethane film - it looks yellow). You can do it yourself - just buy bulk film and you can cut it to size or they may have pre-cut panels already made for purchase. There have been several people here who have installed it themselves (I chose to have someone else install it for me b/c of time).

How do you wax with it on then, do you just wax around it?? What kind of process do you take to remove it. I just would like some winter protection, then remove it for the summer so I can do lots of waxing and polishing.

You treat it just like any other painted surface. You can seal it, wax it, wash it, etc.

As mentioned earlier, if you properly prep the surface prior to application so the paint is swirl free - you are all set. The only thing that you have to be careful of is getting residue on the edge but that is easily removed with a MF. I haven't removed the film myself so I'm not sure of the process.
