Prep before NXT

Richt

I have done a search and seen loads of topping NXT threads. I have finally bit the bullet and ordered some.

What is everyone using before nxt?

I have available to use.

P21S GEPC

Vanila Moose

Megs Swirl free polish

Megs #9

Megs #7

Megs Hand Polish

Autoglym Super resin

What do you think?

Cheers

Rich

Have a have seen the pics, i used # 9 and VM moose this weekend, i may give her another coat of VM and top with nxt then.

I used NXT as the final coat on my wifes car this weekend. It turned out NICE! I would post pics but I having trouble figureing out how to with photobucket.com

I used No.9 SMR, No.7 show car glaze, both w/ PC then NXT by hand. If I ever get pics posted I think you will like..

Rich,

I did 3 cars Friday last week - Merc ML, Audi A6 and a new Jag XK8.

I'd previously done full details on the Merc & Audi so was only washing, waxing & interior but the Jag was sprung on me last minute and I had no clay, wax or PC!

Merc & Audi I used the NXT Booster wax followed with FD with nice glossy result; the Jag I did a coat of VMW, NXT Booster then FD and it looked OK; paint was in good condition to start with so VMW seemed to give it a nice light polish.

I use NXT on the Laguna most of the time now and tend to give it a quick coat of VMW first - lifts any minor swirls right out and leaves a nice surface for the NXT.

I top with P21S or CMW usually although I've stopped topping the Renault - only 12k to go and then it goes back - can't wait!

However, I tried EX-P for the first time yesterday - on smell alone it's a winner (think Hawaiian Tropic) and it left a nice rich finish on the 205 which I followed up with P21S/FD combo - got dark so unable to really see the effect properly.

BTW I need a 205 GTI logo downloadable - any suggestions?

Hi Andy...

If you're at the applying sealants stage (EX-P) then does that mean your 205 is near completion? If so, I demand pics! :D

How do you like FD? I've got a gallon on it's way from Mr Creasey as we speak.

Um - see my other thread Craig. Car's getting there but I'm still not happy with the finish. I know I need to sort out some pics though! I want it to look sharp and I'm not happy at this point - you know what it's like!

Can't help but think I've used the wrong mix of products or perhaps should have done another pass with the DACP rather than FP - not a huge Menzerna fan right now!

Love the FD (courtesy too of Mr C) - smell and results! Certainly top of my list of QD's at this point - but I only have FD. QS & S&W sp probably silly to say "it's my favourite" until I've tried some others.

I have the 205 Gti logo mate. Whats your email address and what format do you want.

My FD and Nxt are coming from Mr C !

Hi,

Newbie here. I've just registered and am new to all this, thought I would tag onto a 'UK' thread! TBH I didn't know this level of dedication existed!!

I have black Saab c900 Turbo and up until now I have prep'ed with 3M Finesse It followed by AG super resin polish followed by AG Extra Gloss protection oil. Guess I have overlooked the wax part of my polishing process. Would it be acceptable to use NXT Tech Wax after applying the super resin and finish off with the Extra Gloss.

Can hear your gasps of horror but up until now I have just used Turtle Wax zip wash (guess this is a pretty dirty word to you lot) but would I be better using #00 or something. I wash the car very regularly if only to remove dust half the time.

Thanks in advance for any responses and help. Also where can I get decent waffle weave drying towels? Are these better than traditional chamois?

Cheers

Dood,

Welcome mate!

Theres no such 'dirty' words as such, just lots and lots of opinions and experiences.

In all honesty theres nothing at all wrong with your regime but, if you wanted to go with NXT as well, I'd suggest that as your topper after the Extra Gloss rather than the other way round.

Rich - As if it isn't shiny enough!!! :D .. What ever you go for the VMW before the topper is what really sets things off for me.

Andy - We demand pics!!! Does anyone have proof the 205 actually exists??? ;)

Cheers.

Alex :).

I used Clay / Megs Swirl Free Polish / NXT on a red Jetta a couple weeks back .. it was in good shape with very fine swirls from washing .. came out great , the SFP took care of the swirls. .

I wouldn't worry too much about using TW Zip Wash - just 'cos it's not mentioned here doesn't mean it's rubbish. Finish it up, then try something else like 'Sonax' or 'Megs Gold Class' to see if you prefer that - it's all about finding the product that suits you.

As for waffle weaves - only one place for me... http://www.pakshak.com (don't forget to ask for Autopia prices) - are they better than the traditional chamois? YES! Also, make sure you wash with a lambswool mitt if not doing so already.

Think we've gone off subject a bit here! :D

Cheers Rich - will email your PSOOC address with details etc.

Just to hijack slightly,

Rich : Do you ever apply AGSR then top with P21S ? What do you think of the end result ? All I am doing at the moment is 3MIHG followed by P21S. This is mainly for quickness, it hides any swirls and looks pretty good.

Steve

Thanks for the advice and comments guys. I'm already using using a mitt so I must be on the right track! Looks like my weekends will be full for a while:D
