Pre-Wax Cleaner after Polishing?

Gentlemen,

If you guys have seen Paul Dalton's process, he usually cleans the paint with a Pre-Wax Cleaner (Zymol HD Cleanse in his situation) after paint correction. Supposedly it's to ultimately prep the surface to be ready for wax application.

I'm wondering if it's actually worth to use a Pre-Wax Cleaner after paint correction before applying the wax.

Are there advantages or is it just a waste of effort, time, and product?

Thanks

Grabby- Using HD Cleanse as the penultimate product is sorta the standard practice with Zymol.

I can see some benefits to it, at least in some cases...not that I do it all the time.

I've used Pinnacle PCL after polishing but before Souveran. It not only cleaned away any polish residue but also provides a slight glaze effect. I suspect the HD Cleanse does the same thing.

Last time I polished the A8 I went over it with 1Z WaxPolishSoft (which is funtionally nonabrasive on Audi clear when used via Cyclo) with the same idea in mind.

I've been using Zymol for a couple years now. I used to do the HD then apply my favorite, Titanium. I've found that claying the vehicle, then applying the Titanium and skipping the HD step has shown no ill-effects. HD makes the car smell nice, but I saw nothing extra from using it.

I would say it *could* only help when proceeding to the next step in the proprietary Zymol process (seeing as how it was possibly/probably engineered to be used in combo with the next step Zymol product), using another Zymol product. However, I see no advantage to doing that before applying your LSP. If you had done no polishing and wanted to go over the paint to make sure it was clean before the wax.... yea it could help.

While it works well, i find it is kind of pointless to use a prewax cleaner after buffing. I like to use AIOs after buffing as it not only cleans all the oil and residues but also adds an extra layer of protection before applying LSPs. Ill typically use either Klasse AIO, Optimum Poli-Seal, or Megs #6 Cleaner Wax

definately use it to clean the paint from left over oils. Zaino, Optimum, Klasse, Ez Creme are all good ones. As said above the paint will look better from it as well.

HD cleanse, both cleans the paintwork and puts down some oil content to help fill minor swirl marks that are left and leave the paintwork looking glossy and nice.

Personally, i have the chocolate sauce (HD Cleanse) and would advise you to purchase something else. If you have machined polished, really you would only want a glaze to either enhance metalic pop, create more depth etc.

For that i would suggest you think about getting one that complements your paintwork style. Further more HD cleanse is is a PITA to use most of the time as it goes from being creamy when wet to cement if you dont buff it off ASAP, a bit like Megs DC 2 infact!

In this world and with the knowledge on this forum you can find a better product; easier to you use and better results.

May i suggest you view Clearkote RMG for metalics, CK Yellow Moose for non black solid colours. Before polymer sealants check out Danase wet glaze. Just a short list of options.

I always thought the polishing step took care of the cleaning part also. I have never had any problems with the LSP bonding to a finish that is just polished. Using a cleaner between these steps sounds a little overkill to me.

My thought too.

That was my initial thought too. Let's pose this question a little bit like this.

What's the downside if I don't use a Pre-Wax Cleaner after machine polishing and prior to LSP application?

I guess time would be the only one. Personally, I will use a cleaner before I apply a picky sealant (the Z or KSG), but if I'm applying something like PB EX-P I dont always feel the need to do so. I base it all on how my back feels and how much time I have.

PB EX-P is one of a few sealants that works fine with oil based glazes! RMG makes it look even wetter.

If I am going to use a sealant I use a paint cleaner like Carlack68, R-2000 paint cleaner, give the car a wash with alkalie degreaser or do a IPA wipedown.

I prefere a wash if I have done paint corrections, just to get rid of all the dust and polishing residues who are left all over the car, in door jambs and etc.

Have you noticed any negative impact on durability when using a glaze under it?

I usually just QD before the application of EX-P.

that's good question. anyone here ever use pre-wax collinite 840 before lsp? i've tired to apply but i found it not easy to remove by hand or machine. i'm just not satify the result of it.
