Porter Cable Buffer 7424

I have thoughts of getting a porter cable buffer w/fine polishing kit (comes with various pads and backing). I have read some of the treads on the buffer and some other inputs and information concerning the product. My concern is that it is stressed (instructions) to keep the buffer flat when in operation so you do not tear up or break down the pads and or hurt the vehicle finish.

With body designs the way they are how do you get the ridges and valleys throught the vehicle with the buffer? If I have to do all the valleys, groves and rib design (on top of the SUV under the roof rack frame) by hand because the buffer can not get to the areas, why not just do it by hand???

I do not have any expierence at using a buffer so maybe the buffer does get in those areas (between the orbital motion of the buffer and the foam pads).

Please assist!!!!!

I do most of the spots where the PC will reach. It doesn't stay completely flat all the time because of the hills and valleys. The contour of my hood and qtr panel here are not flat.

The spots where the PC doesn't reach too well, I'll do by hand. i.e. under my spoiler or the sideview mirrors. So in your case, I'd do the roof rack area by hand.
