Justice Brennan once famously said (when the Supreme Court was trying to define pornography) "I know it when I see it!" I know it when I see it too. But what about coating failure? Would I know it when I see it?
Todd Helm famously said, if you don't use Pinnacle Black Label Cleaning Polish before using Pinnacle Black Label Paint Coating you will get coating failure. But what does that mean? What does it look like?
I assumed that he meant that the coating would not bond to the paint. But does that mean not at all or just that it won't last as long? When I coat a car, it glows and water beads like crazy so I am assuming that I have not achieved coating failure, but I may be wrong.
Water beading raises another issue. Todd told us that you can't/shouldn't let the car get wet for XX (12?) hours after coating with PBLPC. But what happens if it rains 6 hours after my coating job. Will the coating run off? Will it streak? Will it start to break down and disappear in 6 months? None of this has ever been made clear.
Does anyone actually know the answers to these questions from personal experience? I'd like to hear some horror stories - hopefully to learn from them so I don't have to live them myself!
