Popular Car Forums To Post Your Work On??

I am contemplating posting my work on some car forums, but didn't know which were worth while to do so on? Can you guys post up places/suggestions you like to display your work at so I can check it out? Also, if you know places where it's not advisable to do so on due to it being dead or against the rules there? Thanks in advance!

Are you interests to get clients or show off your skills?

Here is a good place to show your skills and I did Hire a detailer early in my career from here.

If you are looking for clients then specific car enthusiast forums are good places. However most require you to pay to advertise

David,
I believe awhile back, all the guys that used to post on this Forum went to some place on Facebook and are all posting there for some time..
Cant remember the name - Detailers Club ???

Believe they all went there because of the sheer number of people who are on Facebook and use it daily, and they could all be seen by more people..

Me, I chose not to because I dont want to have it start sucking out major portions of my life spending time on it.. :)

Good Luck !

See Dan, that's my concern. Facebook isn't all that's cracked up to be. Especially in private groups like Detailer Buddies, Detailing for Dummies & Detail Obsession where you are basically conversing with other detailers which are not exactly your best audience. Facebook really doesn't show up on search engines either. Even though forums aren't as super popular as they used to be, it's still a great way to have someone find you.

Maybe get familiar with the enthusiast sites. Rennlist for Porsche enthusiasts for example, when you have a Porsche to show off. The Care Care and Concours thread there has a steady stream of detainers showing off their work, even if it's not a Porsche.

Places I've been considering:

SVT Performance
Modded Mustangs
FT86club
Bimmerfest
Bimmerforums
VWVortex
Rennlist
MBWorld
Ford Raptor Forums
Viper Club

You may want to do a little more research David. I know some of those sites have subforums dedicated to geographic regions and that may be a good place to find potential clients in your area.

Another option would be to try those same sites to find local forums to post in. They are often run locally and may not require being a sponsor to advertise. I know there are several in my area that are brand specific as well as many classic car clubs.

IMO, that's spam. I don't post on any car forum that isn't one that I am member of because I have that particular vehicle.

I mean no offense with this post David and hope it doesn't come across that way but I think I agree with Scottwax. I suppose one could say they have a general interest in cars and they like to visit any/every car forum. I personally visit a ton of them and though I don't participate, I read much. That said, if that really isn't the case and the main goal is to advertise ones business, I see it as being akin to leaving windshield flyers on cars in a parking lot. Most "Car Guys" aren't fans of that.

Certainly one has to find effective ways to advertise their business but I'm not sure that doing a hit and run on forums that I would otherwise not be a part is the best choice. There are however a number of ways you can look at this and you never know, you may end up being a member of a forum of which you really enjoy participating. If you participate in other conversations and are otherwise involved then this may be a great way to make friends and gain clients. Ulitmately it comes down to each forum's specific policy and how they feel about advertising. Just my 2 cents, worth exactly what was paid for it. ;)

Honestly, my customers are the ones who mention me on other car forums. Not a week goes by when a new customer says I found you on __________ forum.

Scott & GearHead - I totally 100% agree with you! And I totally realize that I'm really being hypocritical and selfish for even considering this (I'm not 100% doing it yet). But, is doing this really such a bad thing?

Let me elaborate......spam is basically defined as "getting a message out to a large audience" and that's exactly what my intension is. It really depends on the reader to determine if my message is a positive or negative one right? Especially if what I'm doing is not breaking the forum rules 1st and foremost. And that especially goes for Autopia, AG and all the other detailing forums too. In retrospect, there are tons of people whose only contribution is posting their work, yet they receive zero backlash for doing so. If anything, these people are praised for what they do. Heck, I've personally attempted to criticize some in the past with my http://www.autopia.org/forums/click-brag/160194-people-post-pictures-autopia.html thread, yet it really didn't solve or change anything. As a result, I've considered looking into this from an optimistic business approach rather than from a pessimistic one. And if all goes well I also plan on contributing in other areas on these forums where possible.

I post a lot on svtperformance, but then again I've been a member there for a long time. I guess my only real thought is if you're going to do it, make yourself active on the forum as a whole, not strictly making posts to sell yourself.

What you are proposing in the stricktest sense may or may not be considered Spam. If you mix your posts up a bit, so that you're not putting identical messages in front of a variety of groups. You'd be considered more of a pest than a real Spammer. If you're further involved with the forum likey no one would say a word. By your own description, you know the kind of posts that are the type to cause suspicion as you've seen it on Autopia (these drive me crazy too).

You'll be OK unless you're either banned or someone starts mentioning the Breidbart Index with respect to your posts. If you use identical information for a variety of sites there is a formula (BI) that can be used to measure just how Spammy the advertisment is. Actually there are a couple of formulas that have been adopted over time. I have no idea why I'm mentioning this. I obviously have too much time on my hands.

Exactly, makes all the difference in the world. Comment on someone else's work. Talk in detail about a variety of products/manufacturers, that's the difference between being a valued member and a solicitor.

Glad you mentioned SVTP House of Wax. I've actually been a member there ever since I bought my Terminator back in 2003 and have just under 500 posts. :)

Good info gents! I may just ease into this and just direct my activity on forums that I have history at and/or interest in. We've got 2 Audis (A3 & A4 Avant S-line) actually and have yet to join any Audi forums. Any recommendations on which ones are good? :)
