I am wondering if the SSR's are rebottled Chemical-Guys stuff anybody know for sure? I have used Chemical Guys polishes but I haven't tried SSR's. I know the Chemical Guys compounds are some very sunshine friendly and I have heard many times that the SSR's are too. I like Poorboys, I'm not trying to bash, Natty's is probably my favorite tin wax, I just want to know the truth. I was hoping to get an answer through PM's but it isn't working, so has anybody tried both of these. They appear to have the same cutting order and color.

When I put this link up in another discusion someone pointed out the poorboy link, I actually thought CG's stuff was two other companies rebottled vendor and didn't make this link until someone pointed out this possible link. Maybe the Poorboy dude can give us some more info.

I have been looking and looking for a polish that doesn't have oils, and that's one reason I stopped using most of my polishes. Menzerna used to not have oils but then changed FPII and added polishing oils so I'm still looking for an oil free polish. I still like FPII but I liked the non oil version better. Anybody know who makes a water based polish besides Menzerna, and does anybody know if the two new Menzerna super polishes po85 and the other one have oils?

FPII has no harmful oils and will not affect any bonding. The oils simply help the polish stay wetter, longer.

Yeah I still use that Product all the time, I never thought they were harmful oils. I know you used the other Menzerna's new polishes, do those have oils too? Is the surface oily after?

Try misting some Spray and Wipe on the surface if it's oily. I've never experienced this.

I have some of the older IP (anthracite color) that I could let go, just PM me.

According to your criteria I dont believe you'll be happy at all with the SSR's. I've only used 2.5 and 1 but wasnt pleased with either. Contrary to some beliefs they do contain fillers. A simple 50/50 IPA/H2O wipedown will prove this. I dont think you'll have any trouble with the FPII. Its what I use under Z2 and I still get 6+ months of durability.

I'm good on IP thanks for the offer. I don't think any of the IP has oils at all or am I mistaking? IP is still the same water based oil free formula it always has been as far as I know. FPII is easier to use than the old stuff, but I still liked the old stuff. I'm sure Menzerna wanted some of the features as Megs probably. I will probably add another step to me details (Alcohol Wipe) but i was kinda hoping not to. Grt1's great idea looks like it will save me for a while, ty: Real expensive though.

IMO, many products (boutique companies) are simply repackaged/relabeled bulk-bought products. There are very few car care chemical manufacturers, and there are far too many products that give VERY similar results.

e.g. - Adam's Butter Wax and Revive polish vs. Chemical Guys Butter Wax and ReVive polish.

e.g. (2) - Poorboy's SSRs (colors and descriptions) vs. Chemical Guys "compounds"

This is not a knock on anyone's products, but simply my opinion.

:xyxthumbs BurlyQ... After those options run out, give Jeff @ Menzerna a call. He can point you in the direction of the rest. I know exactly what you mean about liking results from a particular product, and wanting to stay with it...

Burlyq, your question was asked and answered in the original thread in which you posted the "Chemical Guys" link. I'll insert it here if you missed it:

OK I'll get into this once, even though it is none of anyone's business who makes or where products come from as long as they work.

A) there are limited suppliers of raw material in the entire world for car care products..so yes there will be similar products under different names

B) chemists like most of you do not stay at the same job forever, they make stuff and move on ....some take their formulas with them too...big surprise:rolleyes:

For me I went the same route as David..I wanted to make my own stuff but most companies only wanted to re-label their stuff...I wanted a say in the final product and wanted to be able to tweek them as i saw fit.

My chemist did work for "the big company" and was very unhappy that his boss's would order cheap ingredients and make his work look shabby. This often led to him having to do the same work many times over to make a product usable. For someone who is inventive and creative it is very dissappointing and frustrating.

Yes he made many of the products that are used in bulk all over the country and under many names.

He decided he could not do it any longer and just by my luck I found him when he was just getting ready to open his own place. We discussed the use of only the very best chemicals and solvents available and that neither one of us would allow cheap ingredients to be substituted at any time in any of our products. "I'd rather not make a product for a while than use a sub-standard ingredient" is what he told me.(Professional Polish was off the market for over 6 months once because of this). We agreed and have had a very good relationship since. Many of the products he knew how to make already, needed revision to some degree. I wanted products that could be used in the SUN and also by almost anyone. The stuff he had couldn't...I was sent numerous samples of products one at a time to test and revise with him (as I'm not a chemist either David, but i did have 20+ years experience using products professionally). As some of you remember we only started with 5 products..it took a long time to get those 5 as I wanted them...

To make a long story short ...yes there will be similarities in products and their looks, but using them will quickly tell you they are not the same. It's no different in colas..all companies have the access to the same nuts , water and carbonation but few of them taste the same....

...and no i will not be answering any further questions in this thread :)

And the entire thread, if anyone missed it: rebottling? thread

I kinda thought we had hashed all this out in the other thread

PS My apologies to Poorboy for dredging this up again.

Hey, I'm just about out of FP and wondering if it was still available; does anyone have a link?

I can go to FPII, but man, I've never loved a product like I love FP. I've never had a problem using it, ever. I never felt it needed to stay wet longer.

I think plain FP is still around just very hard to buy in the States now :nixweiss:

No its not i just ordered a bottle from CMA 2 weeks ago. You just have to ask for the original FP not FPII. :xyxthumbs

I don't think he answered the question, or if he did I need a degree in English to understand it. You see to me it's a yes or no question, are these the same polishes? I think he was being defensive and I would have liked to see him be open and honest like David B. That's my personal opinion, so sorry if I'm some type of scrub for wanting to know the truth.:nixweiss Being loyal to a product line is one thing, defending an uncomfortable unknown truth is another. Are we so in love with a product line that we blindly act like servile flatterers to them? I tell you if any product line I'm loyal too did this I would want to know about it. Like I said I like some poorboys stuff, but can I buy the SRR's at 70% or less cost?

It was pretty apparent to me that the answer was no. What he was saying is there are many products that are similar in nature because of formulas being passed around and the similarity in the raw materials used. I have been in the chemical industry for 27 years and dealt with a lot of compounders. Many of them made similar products with many of the same ingredients but there were enough differences to consider them two different products. Some may try and cut corners by substituting one or more raw ingredients that were very similar or tweak the formualtion slightly for various reasons. Poorboys has an excellent product line and the bottom line is, if it works and you like it, then who cares who makes it or if it's the same as Brand X. Sometimes products are toll blended by larger facilities that are equiped to do it, but under there own personal formulation.:)

I care if I can buy it at an enormous discount from that Chemical Guy's site. If it's the same stuff just rebottled, who wouldn't want to get it that cheap?:nixweiss

:up That was my exact thought! I mean, I love the customer support that Poorboy provides, but now that i know how to use a product, and with as many cars as i do, getting the same stuff cheaper is better for me financially.

OT: I will be getting some samples of Chemicalguys products to test. I'll post reviews of them soon.

Finally! It's nice to see some consumer awareness. Will be anxiously awaiting those reviews.
