I purchased a replica lip for my car. The original is made of ABS plastic, the replica is made of polyeurethane.

Problem is, the finish on the replica is HORRIBLE. The whtie hazing or whatever is OBVIOUS... Is this something I can sand?

Anyone have any clue how to clean it up?

I'm thinking wet sanding or I wonder if you can compound/polish that out? I think I would try compound or polish first. If that doesnt work then you havent lost anything other than some product and time. Then wet sand or just paint it.

The urethane may not accept paint like other materials. You should check with the manufacturer to see if they recommend using an adhesion promoter before the primer. Likewise your auto paint store can probably recommend a system for coating it.

It may end up being something like; adhesion promoter, primer/surfacer and/or primer/sealer then base then clear. It just depends on the system you use.

PC.

Yeah like the other pc stated talk to your painter who ever that might be; because in the end they know what their doing. My painter when painting my plastice console used a adhesion promoter, then two ocats of a special primer, the base coat/clear coat. And urethane is perfectly paintable. I used to work in a body shop and those guys did it all the time. Find a painter or a dealship that you trust and get to know them. They will help you out and give you insight on things too!
