Considering I don`t own a Rupes yet I would be using my flex or flex rotary anyway but soon im adding a MK3 15 and will used that for finishing work

Personally if one of my tools goes down, I have others to get the job done. So it’s a non issue for me.
 
Noting that I`m not a Pro and that it`s easy for me to spend other people`s money...

RANGERBAY &Dr. Oldz are absolutely right approaching it the way they do.

IMO this is a "two is one and one is none" situation where you oughta have a backup. When *anything in life* is deemed truly essential, you oughta have more than one, even if the backup is only good enough to get you by for a short time.

I even have two Cyclos, despite those things being as reliable as sunrise.
 
A pro/someone that details for a living, should have multiple machines that they can use a backup. In my shop we have several long throw polishers, da`s, flex forced rotation and rotary polishers. If I was in a pinch, and hand nothing as a backup, I would run to home depot and pick up a porter cable and get the job done.
 
Seeing how I have 5 Rupes machines, not counting Nanos, hopefully all of mine won’t die at the same time. I chose the rotary selection even though I have only done two vehicles with my Rupes rotary I think I could do a good job, just slower.
 
I’d buy the DA at HF to finish the job and fix or order a new rupes or some other DA after some research. I’d keep the HF as a back up.

Truth is I have a back up GG6 and 2 rupes machines but that was not a choice.

Not right for every user, nor for every vehicle (e.g., it can`t do the contours of my Jag). But it *NEVER* breaks or wears out even when horribly abused/neglected. And it`s the only polisher I`ve ever come close to considering a pleasure to use. And I felt that way before the days of velcro-backed 4" pads when it was a *real* PIA to switch them. But heh heh, maybe that`s just me :o
 
My choice from the options was `Harbor Freight DA`, but like many that replied I take a GG6 as a backup when mobile.
I was in HF on Saturday looking for a tool for my new cordless mini polisher - no, not the one from Flex, but a Diavolo. Once I can figure out how to post pics here I will put a review and photos of what you get for $139.
