Polishing Stainless w/out (PC)

Could you use sheets of wetsand paper to repolish polished stainless?

Wanting to polish my exhaust tips, but it's stainless and all i've polished is aluminum.

Was thinking of starting at 320 and going to one sheet of 1000 and 1200

then followed by Flitz polish
