Polishing question

I use M205 for most of the polishing I do, using M105 if needed. To achieve best results, should I be looking at a finer polish to use after M205, and if so, please recommend?

topsyt- While I almost always found that a different Finishing Polish improved upon M205 (and that's one of several reasons why I just don't use M205 any more...), I don't think you need to, uhm....look for problems that you don't know you have ^_^

If you're doing everything right and still want to refine the finish, then I'd use either something from Menzerna (I kinda like the PO106 variant that's sold under the "Blackfire" label, or try their PO85rd, which I haven't ever gotten around to opening) or HD Polish, which, after I finally gave in and tried it, quickly became my all-time fave Finishing Polish, bar none. Actually, I like the HD Polish so much (and so much more than I expected to), that it's pretty much the only Finishing Polish I reach for, and I have quite a few of them that I liked just fine. Now those others just sit on the shelf unused, the HD is *that* much better IMO.

Thanks, can you post a link to the HD Polish so I know exactly which one to look at?

Another great finishing compound that will continue working until you stop, is Optimum Hyper-Polish.
This great product works quickly and will do what you want it to do, depending on paint, paint condition, type and grade of pad, type of machine, and your experience with it using speed and pressure..

Good luck with your research !

My view is 205 can finish extremely well and without the need for another product. However it is always worth experimenting, therefore something like PO85RD or whatever the new version is called may be worth doing a test section to see if it improves things

Really wanted to try the Menzerna, but too rich for my budget, so fittingly, ordered the Poorboys Pro Polish.

Thanks, can you post a link to the HD Polish so I know exactly which one to look at?

Sorry, I'm having issues doing links/etc. with this PC...if you go to the 3D/HD website, the product is pretty easy to spot as the just call it "Polish". Note that their AIO that's named "Speed" might be a viable alternative as it has similar abrasives. I kinda like slightly abrasive AIOs as they leave a little something behind in case a day/weekend of polishing leaves you so exhausted that you'd rather not LSP until after the next regular wash (there are some other reasons why I like those AIOs as my Finishing Polish too..).

One thing that has been mentioned over on the Meguiar's forum is following up with the D302 microfiber polish on a finishing pad. This is if you want to stay within the Meguiar's family.

What do you recommend instead of M205? And have you tried Optimum Polish II?

No, never tried the OPII (utterly despised their original OCP).

My finishing polish is now HD Polish. I had previously preferred 1Z Hi-Gloss and the BlackFire-labeled version of Menzerna 106 (not sure which one it is but it doesn't act like 106FF). I resisted trying the HD Polish for a long time, just stubborn, but once I did I kicked myself for not trying it sooner. Everybody has different likes/dislikes, but for me it's simply perfect.

I've never tried to "push it" and do significant correction with HD Polish the way some folks do with M205, but as a genuine Finishing Polish it's my fave.

Anybody want to buy a gallon of M205 or a new bottle of PO85rd? I bet those will never leave the shelf.

HD Polish just seems to always work well for me. M205 can finish down very well too, but on some paints it may require a little finessing or adjusting of ones technique/pad choice.
