18 towel wazsh and polish - over IP/FPII FMJ the day before

maybe I need a set of polishing mf's.

I have

2 cobra green

1 cobra white

2 blue stars

2 glass mf's

getting hairline marring removing staining/scratches/rotary swirls from hood

maybe I'm just bringing the defects to the surface

- gonna try scratch-x - would have left them but they were pretty bad -

- just doing a small section at a time for defect removal - getting nice clarity but the marring is swirl rific

left over qd - protect-all from the wash - has some polish in it - going super light at this point.

I think I need to whispily rotary buff it, but trying to avoid it.

the scratch-x and a green cobra microfiber are working. using the touchless polish method.

wish list - steam buggy -

theory on what is happening - the RESIDUAL IP/FP under the FMJ is lifting out defects - as long as the pressure is light enough - and there is some mild lubrication to lift stuff out.

also... look into the 16x24 blue Viking drying microfiber towel (excellent for qd'ing, removing polishes/waxes), as it's easily & readily available at you local autozone, kragen, etc.. :xyxthumbs

Cobras aren't soft enough for my taste. They left some micromarring on the Jag once.

Not sure I follow the "lifting out defects" bit or the "touchless polish method"....marring is just fine scratches cut in the paint, you abrade them away like sanding a piece of wood.

spent way too much time, but it looks nice

good thing we take pictures sometimes, oops, gotta go get that wax on the edge....

BTW, Final Touch Glaze is a Glaze, there. I said it. It's a Glaze and there's just no way around it. Glaze. Glaze. Glaze. There. I said it again.

Guess I'm not very good at Glazes. I tried a little spot of FTG and opted out. I like #7 better.

No Glaze at all at present. But tomorrow I better put some #7 on there until I get a PC and can massage the marring.

Dare I try my new bottle of SpeedShine?

I tried that viking towel for polish removal and it worked well, letting me see I'm in deep doo doo scatch wise.

Darn, missed post #4.

Touchless, where you glaze on the polish and let water break it down, didn't seem to work.

Well, it sorta did, but too much effort.

Yes, abrade, I went super slow and made some headway. Once you get in there, it's amazing how much crap is inbedded in the clear. Very light but it's too time consuming. I didn't put anything new in with the Cobra but had to go so light and carefully, it was a pain.

Yeah, I have to get a PC, and never let anyone wash it ever again.

Wow, at least I learned alot. The PC's a whole other animal, so basically time wasted, but not.

I might pay someone with a PC to massage those areas.

Since I'm short on time.
