Polishing flat black?

Has anyone polished or compounded flat black paint? What was the end result? I tried painting a hardtop and ended up with unevenness and splotchiness and I'm wondering if compounding may even the gloss or just compound the problem:hairpull

After consulting the paint manufacturer I found out the issue and have proceeded to wetsand it and reprime it. The problem stems from Valspar making 2 different tractor paints in 2 different product lines with the same name. Both are called low gloss black but one is actually a flat black while the other is a gloss black and each produces a different texture.
