Polishing around trim, How do you do it?

I was curious to see how others go about polishing the areas around the trim, for example the trim in the middle of the door? I typically slow the rotary down to around 1K and go at the area for a while. It seems like alot of work to me but when I have the rest of the door looking perfect under 500w halogens i just can't let it go. The inherent danger of burning paint off the trim always seems to keep me from perfecting that area (unless I want to spend a lot of time). So how do you do it?

I feather the rotary around the trim. I really don't find it any harder than any other surface of the car you just have to pay a little more attention to what's going on.

Tape is your friend and it costs a lot less than replacing trim.;)

thanks for the replies, tape is definitely my friend as well. I have trim on the door of my

g35x that is painted and very delicate, feathering the rotary has worked well but there is one scratch that I can't seem to get at low speeds, even with 4" pads. I am going to try and go at it with 3m rubbing compound by hand then finish it off with PO85RD by rotary. I'll let you guys know how it goes tomorrow after work.

Thanks! I don't remember if it was polished in that shot or not but I will upload a finished shot of it tonight.;)

Nice, that is such a beautifal and now rare car, especially in black. Great job, it'll be nice to take a cruise in that. What did you top it with (LSP)

The owner went to lengths to get it and is very happy with the car. They're pretty rare around here and still expensive. It was sealed with Meg's #21 after being polished with Menzerna IP and 106ff.

Thanks!
