Polishing a Honda with Menzerna...need advice

Hey fellas,

Before I make a stupid mistake, I want to make sure that what I'm about to do is the right thing. The car is a '07 Honda Fit Sport. It's got some really fine swirls all over my hood, and some on the roof. It's so fine that sunlight has to hit the paint the right way for me to see it. Therefore, I can't even tell if there are any on the doors. As for noticeable scratches, there is one on the hood, and a fine hair line on the trunk door. My toolbox consists of a PC 7335, 6.5" LC Orange mild cut flat pad, 6.5" LC White polish flat pad, Menzerna IP, Menzerna FPII. To remove the really fine swirls, do I really need to use IP and LC Orange or perhaps a FPII/LC Orange combo or FPII/LC White instead? My initial thought was to use IP/LC Orange first, then finish off with FPII/LC White. Is this overkill? Thanks-in-advance.

Paint will be topped with Victoria Wax. Photos/product reviews to come once I'm done. :)

Try FPII/white on a 2x2 test spot, pull the car out in the right lighting, if it didn't fix it, go to IP/orange than finish with FPII/white. From my experience, FPII should fix light marring on a honda very well.

If they are as light as you say, you could probably get away with FPII/White Pad. Honda/Acura paint is very soft, but if the swirls don't come out, then step it up to the Intensive Polish.

Okay, so what you're telling me is that I have marring instead of swirls, right? I just want to make sure I got the terminology right.

Oh I also forgot, guys. Am I good at starting the PC on 4, then work it in on 6 till dry? Also, how much pressure should I be applying on the PC regardless of what polish/pad combo I use on a Honda? Thanks again. :)

Marring and swirls usually come in pairs. You probably have both.

But as far as the PC goes, they usually say around 15 pounds of pressure. So push down on the machine while running on 6 until it "bogs" or slows, and slowly lift up until it reaches full speed again. Thats a good amount of pressure to apply.

And when starting, I apply the polish to the pad, spread it on the surface, before turning the machine on speed 3. I use speed 3 to get the polish evenly spread before kicking it up to speed 6.

Thanks silvergray. I'll be giving that a shot in the coming weeks. Just waiting for Touchup123 to arrive. So far, I'm not impressed. :)
