Polishers: what are we actually using?

As I understand it, there have been historicaly on Autopia (and everywhere else :) ) interesting debates about rotary vs DA or which tool is the best over another etc. etc.

Unless my search was flawed, I cannot find an actual accurate account of what is out there and used the most.

Perhaps it would be useful for the mods to organize a poll, where each of us could use the one polisher out of our arsenal that we are using the most. All the well known options could be listed, together with an 'other' for those tools that we might have not even heard of.

The purpose of this poll (for me at least) would not be to crown 'the one king of polishers', but just to take a pic of what we are using now.

Thank all owner/moderators/admin in advance for considering this and providing some feedback.

i don't think there is any one right type. alot of the advanced hobbyist and professionals here will have more than just one type of machine. at a min alot of them will have a da and a rotatory.

Much like there is no one best screwdriver, knife or any other tool, there is no best polisher. I think the only one that stands out as "best all around" with regards to effectiveness, durability and price is the GG6.

Right. I hardly ever do correction these days, but when I do I'll often use my Flex 3401, my Griot's 6", and the Cyclos. Seldom use the PCs or the rotaries but wouldn't want to be without them either.

I fully agree with all the points made and the purpose of this exercise would be just a registering of what we find ourselves using the most.

I have a Griot's Garage DA but find myself reaching for my trusty Makita 9227 the most, the correction is unbeatable once you know how to use it.

I enjoy my Makita so much. I do have a bunch of DA machines and another couple rotaries though.

I have been forcing myself to use the PCXP and GG more.

As far as machine polisher or products are concerned; there is no single solution for all paints types; every detailer has their own preferences, as long as the machine and products used are satisfactorily meeting your detailing goals. Each polishing project should be assessed individually and a ‘test panel’ will reveal the best solution of machine, pad, polish that yields the desired results

Some find they are more comfortable and therefore more confident using an orbital. Many users get experience with an orbital and then go over to an orbital.

The results of a poll would be interesting (can't help with setting it up though, perhaps someone with more computer savvy than me (shouldn't be hard to find). My guess is an orbital

The reason that I did not use the poll tool available through the thread tools, was because this is a proposal hoping to be endorsed and organised on the Autopia level, with the options/polishers selected by the experts.

That way a lot more people would participate, I think, thus providing meaning in the result. Not a debatable/subjective 'which tool is best' result but 'what are Autopians actually using most of their time as a go to tool' result.

But the nature of your poll is subjective as each person is going to have a different process and be more or less comfortable with a given machine for a given situation.

What exactly are you trying to have "endorsed"?

Each answer is subjective of course (couldn't be any other way), the result however is quantitative/objective. i.e x% use polisher A, y% use polisher B etc. Again it does not mean that A is better than B (subjective) but that more people who happened to answer use A than B.

The 'endorsement' part (apologies if the term is misused) is about my belief that if Autopia organised this poll rather than Ch96067, then more people would feel at ease/inclined/enthoused to answer thus giving the results more credibility and statistical significance.
