Well here is the latest detail (one of a fair few to come soon providing they are worth a write up
):
The car is a Jap import and although it was pretty spotless when i arrived, it was the roughest car i have ever detailed, it needed ALOT of claying which took nearly 2 hours alone to get it silky smooth again, maybe this roughness comes from the transportation over here i dunno?
Wash process was as follows:
- Pre foamed with Megs APC through the AB foam lance
- Door shuts/petrol cap etc treated to APC
- Rinsed
- Foamed with Megs Hyper Wash & washed with TBM & Megs Shampoo +
- Wheels cleaned with Megs WB cut 10:1 (water:WB) & MF mitt
- Rinsed
- Clayed with Meguiars Aggressive Clay & Shampoo +/Water as lube
- Rinsed & then dried with PB Waffle Weave towel.
Once inside i could clearly see the cob-webbing and random scratches but due to the high flake content in the paint it was a royal pain in the a$$ trying to capture the pics, i managed to get a few but they dont quite show the full extent of the defects:
Next step was to take paint readings. The metal panels were averaging from 65-105 microns with the plastic bumpers reading from between 45-80 microns, this was pretty much what i'd have guessed from a jap car and i assumed the paint would be pretty soft. So first i tried Menz 85RD on a finishing pad @1500rpm's - this didnt have much effect at all so i bumped it up to 106ff on a polishing pad @1500rpms - again not a hugely impressive result.
I decided to take a second set of readings so that i could mask off any really low areas of paint in order for me to use IP 3.02 as the 106ff was going to take too long. The IP corrected everything first time and finished down LSP ready with no problems at all - the warmer weather is definitely helping the cerami-clear polishes up here again :thumb: The only area that annoyed me was a 6"x6" area on the bonnet that had a deep scuff, the paint wasnt thick enough to wet sand so i had to make do with slightly reducing it.
The thin areas that were masked off were done with 106ff at a lower speed and although this took a bit longer it produced a satisfactory level of correction
Bits that the Rotary couldnt fit were done by hand & 3.02 on a german applicator pad, working small areas at a time

- Blackfire Ivory Paste Wax by hand
- Glass - Zymol HD Cleanse
- Arches/Ex.Trim - Meguiars All Season Dressing
- Wheels - PB Wheel Sealant
- Tyres - Blackfire Long Lasting Tyre Gel
- Exhausts - Blackfire Fine Cut Metal Polish
