Polish on Black Plastic

I thought I had missed the door handles ( i was too lazy to mask) when I used my random orbit, and now my black plastic door handles are grey.

Why can I use that will remove the stuff for good?

Thinners? Peanut Butter?

I need a PERMANENT fix if possible.

Thankyou Autopians.

PS have some pics of a 1970 230SL merc coming, I spent a weekend on it.

I'd try both of those at the least. Also try a white rubber eraser. Depending on the plastic and how much polish is in there, it could be a difficult job. Good luck.

I always keep some "Back to Black" (Maguires I believe) handy. It removes the polish immediately and restores all plastic, not just black, to original.

Back to Black is a Mother's product.

Forrest is going to send you a lump of coal for Christmas.

This is the order that I remove stain from trim

First spray WD40 on a paper towel and wipe area then buff.

Second if the first is not successful then use peanut butter. Rub the area with the peanut butter so that the oils in the peanut butter are worked into the surface then wait a few minutes and wipe off.

Third use mineral spirits by wiping the area.

Mothers makes back to black to protect and shine/sheen trim and they make a very good plastic polish.

You could try one of meguiars cleaners ( I forgot the name!! it is thier professional line). Check their website, I have used it awile ago to remove wax from the trims. It did a good job. On the Poorboy's thread someone tried the rubber/plastic cleaner on ground in dirt and gave an excellent review. That might be another option.

Before you use a dressing that covers it up like Back to Black (it's very good, I agree) or Black Again first try to remove the wax.

I have had best results with solvents like denatured alcohol (the least offensive) or as suggested, mineral spirits or aerosol brake parts cleaner. None of these will hurt plastic. WD40 is ok but you need to wipe off the lube afterwards! Peanut butter is also a legit answer for some situations. Use smooth not chunky, it causes swirls.;)

Hmm, I had brake cleaner "melt" a plastic headlight lens once. I wonder what was in that stuff?? lol... A soft bristle toothbrush and your favorite carwash as the toothpate works well also. Just watch the paint...

I do to! They must have bottled carburettor cleaner instead! Brake parts cleaner is pretty weak stuff. But , like Betty Crocker always says, test everything before you feed it to your Mother in Law!;)

P21s Total Auto Wash... a Citrus cleaner that will remove, not cover up, wax residue on rubber and plastic. I covered the black rubber trim around the windows on my car with 3M SMR and Blitz...used the P21S TAW and it got rid of the stains. I have not used any rubber treatment since, and they look great.

(I also switched to P21S wax as well !!!).

When we weren't so good as children, we didn't get coal - we got 2 sticks and a rock in our stocking.

Guess what was in my stocking last Christmas?

I hope I was better this year.

Are you sure about that?

I thought it was test everything "by" feeding it to your mother in law.
