I finally had time today to detail my new 09 Ram/inferno red. I posted on here a week ago and got some good ideas on how to proceed and here is what I did.
I first washed it using Pinnacle high foam wash and a foam cannon. Then it was dried fully and pulled in the garage. It was raining on and off today so the humidity was very high.
Then I clayed it using the Sonus soft clay and Meguires quik detail as the lubricant. And dried it again.
Next I used a DA buffer and a lake country white pad and hit it one time with Poli seal. This is only the second time I have used poli seal and I am really starting to like the product. The truck was only 3 weeks old so it didnt need any real correction but I worked the poliseal in until it was almost flashing off at the tail end of the buffer pad. I applied the Poli with the buffer on 1 and then worked it in the paint on a speed of 3-4. Never over 4
At that point it wiped off very easily with a cobra deluxe Jr MF towel. The paint looked fantastic already but I wasnt tired so I went ahead and topped it.
For that I used one of my favorite sealants which is Wolfgang high gloss sealant. I dont have the new version yet so this is last years I guess. I see they have a 3.0 out now.
I applied this with a lake country black polishing pad at a speed of 1 and then moved it up to 3. I tried to keep the sealant fairly thin to make drying fast and removal easy in the high humidity. I was doing one or two large sections at a time and then coming back and removing it with a cobra MF and it too came off easily.
Now the paint was VERY slick, very reflective and swirl and defect free. But I had some other things that were new so I wanted to try the new Dodo juice. I used the soft orange wax and applied it by hand on only one section of the hood to see if I liked it. It seemd a bit greasy to me but perhaps I was applying it a bit too thick. It was kinda hard to work out of the small trial sized containers. I allowed it to sit a few minutes and removed it with another Cobra MF and I coud feel more of a difference than I could see. When I ran my fingers across the dodo section it felt a little thick and dragged my fingers more. Typical of a carnuba I think. While the wolfgang section felt much slicker. I decided that it didnt give me much improvement and didnt use any more of it.
By this point I was 5 hours into the project so I cleaned up the garage and took a few photos. I really like the inferno red dodge color and it seems quite thick and easy to work with as far as the paint goes. I saw about 3 fish eyes in the paint but they are all on the roof so no wories for me.
Next I used some 303 on the tires and tried to clean the windows a bit. They are VERY rough and I can hear the wipers dragging. I think when I wash it next time I will have to scrub them to get the film and surface gunk off. I have some wet product called glass scrub (I think) that I will try.
Here are a few photos of the truck afterward. Sorry they are inside but it was dark and raining again by the time I finished so I had to use articial light and a flash and in some cases it made the paint glare a bit and also made it look slightly ligher than it really is.
This should hold me for the winter I think.
