Ok....a few questions. I washed and clayed yesterday. This morning I went out to pick up the PC for the first time. I went with the SSR1 first, didn't see results so I tryed the SSR2.5 with the orange pad followed by the SSR1 with the black/gray pad. It looks worse than before. I used speed 3-4 to work it in a little then cranked it up to 5-6 making nice slow passes until it was completly worked in. What am i doing wrong? I want to get this done, I'm so sick of looking at the swirls all over my black car. These are the products I have: PB SSR1, SSR2.5, Clearkote red moose machine glaze, PB ex w carnuba, NB. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please! :-) Thanks.

Do you have pics?

How slowly were you moving over the area? Some people move too quickly. (I see you said "nice slow passes," but different people have different ideas of "fast" and "slow.")

How large of an area were you doing? (It seems many people do too large of an area. A door or half a hood are waaay to large of areas to be polishing deep defects from at one time.)

Did you see better results after the 2.5? If not, there wouldn't be much point of going over it with SSR1, since it's so mild. Maybe you need multiple applications of 2.5 before you go to SSR1.

Some swirls are deeper than expected, and might require skilled rotary work. There are limitations to what the PC can do in a limited amount of time.

That said, if you had lots of patience, you could still get the deeper swirls removed with a PC. I've used SSR3 by hand to remove a scratch and (since the scratch was deeper than I thought) I ended up going right through the paint. By hand. Admittedly, SSR3 is much more abrasive than 2.5, but the general idea is the same.

On the other hand, you might be able to fill them in temporarily with a glaze. Vanilla Moose does a good job. I haven't tried the RMG yet, so I can't say whether or not that would work in your case.

in your post you stated "I went with the SSR1 first, didn't see results so I tryed the SSR2.5 with the orange pad followed by the SSR1 with the black/gray pad."

problem is you seem to be using the wrong pad and technique

I would start with the 2.5 and the orange(cutting) pad ( if paintwork is in bad condition)going over a 2'X2' section at a time applying pressure(to put heat in the pad and aid cutting) to the head of the machine. work slowly up-down-side-side to me this is 1 pass--multiple passes may be needed

once you have corrected the major flaws switch to a white(polishing) pad and the SSR1 then repeat process

I only use the black (finesse)pad for glazes and wax/ sealant as it has no cutting

practice makes perfect

as a side note you may not be able to get all the imperfection out the PC only does so much

The paint isn't really that bad, the car is only a 1.5 years old and is garaged 90% of the time. I just have alot of micro scratches from washing and such. It seems like some of the larger swirls and fine scratches were gone, but it left me with little tiny scratches, which IMO lookied worse.:wall I only tryed the 2.5 on my hood...should I just try the ssr1 and keep passing til it's the way i want it. If I start out with the ssr1, what pad should I use with that (i know you said use the orange pad with the ssr2.5, but is that appropriate with the ssr1 also?) thanks for your help.
