The only connection I have to this story is I live in the community where it happened. The story is however really upsetting to me. DUI really makes me mad. Two people died at a young age when the driver shouldn't have been on the road at all. Please do what it takes to stop a friend or loved one or yourself from driving drunk.

Had a friend die in High School because her boyfriend was drunk. Two people I knew in college because their roommate was drunk. Don't drink and don't text on the road, IMO.

if i cant make it home im known to sleep in my car on the side of the road, in a gas station, wherever i can rest for a bit. dont drink & drive folks. its not worth the risk.
we used to cab it up when we went out to the city. if someone couldnt make it home, not a big deal my friend had a big house & we all were welcome to crash there if we needed to sober up.

Sleeping in your vehicle on the side of the road is the responsible thing to do though you still may receive a "misdemeanor" DUI as some states would consider you in physical control of a motor vehicle. I believe both Oregon and Washington have this rule in effect. Other states may as well.

I lost a few friends from drinking and driving overseas when I was stationed back in the 80's. Missed them alot.

as an officer i arrested every drunk driver i encountered, after seeing all the harm they caused. i was later disabled and retired when i attempted to stop a drunk driver and he hit me head on. just a few years ago, my officer son was en route to a call for a drunk driver when another drunk (3rd time dui) ran an intersection and broadsided him, nearly killing him. after many surgeries and rehab, he fought his way back and is still serving today. needless to say, you don't want to drive under the influence around him. don't hesitate to report one if you see one. strong arm your friends if you have to.

A state trooper here in Nebraska got hit head on by a 17yr old that was not licensed and not insured

I got one dui in 2005 and learned my lesson then. I didnt hit anyone thank god/get in an accident. Everyone makes mistakes but some of those mistakes a very unforgiving and can end your life or others in a split second.
