Playing nice with a long throw.

What compounds and polishes have you found that did not work well with the extra heat generated from a long throw polisher?

I found Wolfgang TSR an m101 to be a bit finicky. Otherwise haven`t had problems.

Uh-oh, I don`t like the sound of that!

In what way(s) is it finicky and what`re some effective solutions (if any)? Here I`m just falling in love with the M101 and I do toy with the idea of buying a conventional long-throw (I understand that some consider the Cyclo a long-throw hence that "conventional"). Are there any issues running M101 with a Rupes Mini? Haven`t tried mine out yet...

I love M101 too! I have not tried 101 with the mini yet so I can`t help out there,. With my 15mm long throw, B&S uro-Tec Foam PADS on Cadillac paint it got gummy and not a very long work time. It really shocked me because 101 with a GG6 and flat foam B&S pads on the same paint was a dream to work with.

mikejames- Ah, OK, thanks for explaining about the gumminess. I`m OK with very short work-times so maybe that won`t bug me, and we`ll see whether my paints are problematic or not.

I plan to work with it more when it warms up here. I can tell you I could not get any correction out of it because it was gumming up so fast.

I know what you mean about gummi ! My experience was of the opposite.
Tried to use Rupes Keramik on an 8mm, it got gummi then started to roll around sort of

The only product that has been trouble with my Mini, would be Britemax compounds and polish.
Left behind more swirls, I could see exactly where I had polished by the tons of perfect little circles.
Tried working it longer, shorter, lighter, dif. pads. (It`s on my 8mm only shelf now)

Have you tried the Surbuf pads yet ?? Those I`m wondering about ??
One try sofar. With the power of the Mini, turning it on, the pad went POOF ! Alot of the hair material flew everywhere ! :yikes:

I had such awful results from the Surbufs that I completely wrote `em off. User-error or not, I simply don`t touch mine (I tried them via PC and Cyclo, shudder to think how much worse the experience might`ve been via Rupes).

>>>Very well could of been the pad you were using. I`ve had no issues using a Boss pads on a p/c or GG6 using the blue or yellow.

I actually liked Zephir and Keramik with Hydrotech pads on my PC...

I find that I get pilling from either too much product, or a previously waxed or sealed surface.
