Plastx or Mothers Plastic Polish for headlights

My headlights are getting a little fuzzy and I want to clean them up. Do you have a preference over either one of the two or do they work pretty much the same? I've been able to find Mothers in Pep Boys, but can't find Plastx.

I've used both for that purpose, and I prefer PlastX. It's easier to use IMO, and has demonstrated its ability on numerous occasions.

even though plastx says it should only be used on clear plastics. I THINK. I have used it on my black side mirrors and looks amazing.

Headlights are clear plastics.

PlastX says "Clear plastic cleaner & polish" on the label.

The Mothers Plastic Polish label doesn't mention anything about clear plastics vs. colored plastics.

PlastX says "removes fine scratches", "Removes oxidation and grime", and "removes haze and cloudiness". It does all of the above from my experience with it.

The Mothers bottle says "Removes scratches", "Cleans, shines, and protects", and "great for headlight covers, plastic lenses and bug shields".

Another thing I take into consideration is the possible hazard contained within the product. PlastX identifies itself as a "possible eye and skin irritant", "Non-Toxic", while the Mothers label says "harmful or fatal if swallowed. See 'DANGER' on back label".

Maybe I'm one of a select few that looks at the health hazards of products to aid in my search for the "best" product for my use. I'm the same way with things like APCs and polishes. If a polish produces carcinogenic dust, or an APC warns against toxic fumes, I don't have a need for it. Although I did recently see that my Meg's APC warns against breathing its fumes, so I probably won't use that again inside, unless the windows are wide open.

I used ScratchX on my headlights just this week and had really good results. Anyone else ever use it for plastic? I already had some and did not want to buy a plastic polish for just two headlights.

maybe it was just me. but i tried it on old plexi glass aquarium and it wasnt too good. scratched it up good.

I've found them to work about equally. Mothers does tend to build up a static charge, though. I really noticed this when I was using a linty cloth. I recommend Mothers here (Canada), though, as the PlastX is more expensive in Canada.

What is the proper method for polishing your headlights? Mine has some sort of grime on it.

That depends on how bad your headlights look. For my headlights, I just use PlastX about once a month to restore the optical clarity. For other people's cars, I often have to remove yellowing/hazing from the lenses, and PlastX applied with a MF applicator always does the trick in no time.

I apply it with a little bit of pressure, taking maybe 20 seconds to work the product into the headlight until it turns clear, then I wipe it off with a MF towel.

Well, I'm going to perform and experiment this weekend on some 10+ year old soft plastic boat windows. I think they are in moderate shape, not the best or worse I have seen.

I have AIO, Plastx, and Meg's #10 plastic polish and it companion cleaner.

I'll start in that order working up if I have to. Hopefully I can return the #10 and cleaner, they were kind of expensive.
