Plasma TV Issue- Help Needed

The screen on our Samsung plasma has gone black. The TV will turn on, but theres no picture, just a black screen. Does anyone know how to fix this? Would like to fix it myself if possible.

It's very hard to say with a plasma. With a LCD I would go directly for backlight. Were there any other observations you made before/after the screen when black? Was there a loud pop? Have you tried unplugging it for a day? Have you tried lightly tapping on the sides? Have you tried other inputs, DVD, HDMI's and so on? Is there a loud buzzing coming from the back? It could be a very wide range of problems from faulty connectors to power supply and video board issues.

I wasnt there when the screen went out, so not sure if there was a pop or not. Did leave it unplugged for a day and still get a blank screen. The TV gets left on a lot, so maybe some circuit board went out?

From the reviews I am reading it might not be worth repairing.....:( You can get a nice plasma pretty cheap now so might be worth it to start shopping for a new one :(

"The repair said that "two buffers and the Y-Main" were "fried". That would cost over $1000 and there was no guarantee that the front panel was not defective. But the two buffers and Y main needed to be replaced first to determine the status of the front panel. If the front panel was gone, it would cost another $1000. We had paid about $2100 for the TV and so opted not to go ahead with the repairs. "
