Pitting on hood...What causes it and how do I get rid of it?

I've got an 02 german car. It's yellow. I've been using menzerna IP with an orange pad to lose the swirls and minor scratches. I've got minor pitting on the horizontal surfaces. I can't feel it, but I can sure see it. I tested a portion of the hood last night by going over it with the Menz IP four or five times. Still didn't get rid of them. I know the IP is really mild and so is the orange pad, but I don't want to go overboard. Is there a way to get rid of these? Any idea what causes it? My car is garaged and is not a daily driver.

Yep. The chips appear to be in the clear, and not on top of it. from what i have been told you can go all day long with the menzerna IP and you won't hurt anything...but i really don't want to be doing this for hours and get no real results. like i said....i hit it with four or five passes with IP and no luck. they're slightly diminished, but still there.

Wow...it seems after I posted my thread about this at least 2 or 3 more threads popped up.

Pitting is a better way to describe what I have too....not exactly chips, I can't feel them, but they are in the clear and in the sun they don't look very good.

You may try attacking it with some Meg's DACP and a cutting pad then following that with #80. If they are still there you may have to wet sand and follow that with a rotary.

Whoah. I've got a pc, but wet sanding and rotaries are beyond my skill level. Went over it again last night with Menz IP and still couldn't get them do go away. Even tried claying again just to be sure. Actually looks worse now because since the swirls are one, it really shows them off :( Oh well, time to find a pro in my area. I'm guessing if it's not coming out with the PC and some Menz IP, it's not coming out without going to the next level. Thanks for the respones.
