Hi,

I guess im the new guy...Anyway, I have a Thunderbird with the factory Pearl white finish and use Pinnacle Paste Glaz with great(in my experience) results. I have used the Paint Work Conditioner once since purchasing it a few months ago. Since i have monday off, i plan to wash the car with dawn to take all the old wax off. I got a tube of Meguirs Scratch X today and would like to know how it fit into the equation....Should I use it before or after the Condition?

Whatcha got?

thanks

What are you trying to do? Remove swirls, or.....? :nixweiss

I'm moving this to AU, since Product Discussion is more for reviews, comparisons, etc. Hope you don't mind. :)

Focus on the job at hand and your desired results, not on the products.

Products exist to solve a problem or accomplish a task. What do you need done?

Don't worry, its a classic newbie mistake to have several products then try to figure out how to use them and when. Most of us here agree that a great looking car is 90%+ technique and process, and <10% products. That should be your mindset.

If you are going to use the ScratchX and Pinnacle paint cleanser prior to protecting, the Dawn wash is probably not necessary. Neither of the 2 products you mentioned have "real/complete" surface marring eliminating ability. A Dawn wash will remove all the filling that exist prior to your detail on Monday. This may be a good thing if you want to see what your finish condition really is in term of marring. Nevertheless, a 2 step cleansing/filling may not be enough to replicate the before state of filling and hiding. You may find yourself with a larger and additional step requiring job ( more abrasive polishing). Just wash with your normal vehicle shampoo and proceed to polish. I have never used ScratchX but I would apply it first after washing and then follow with paint cleanser on 1/2 panel. Do the other half panel with just paint cleanser and compare results. You may only need the paint cleanser on a white finish. These 2 products probably have about the same polishing/cleansing ability. :nixweiss

Have a great time Monday and enjoy the experience.

Admiring the end results of ultra-detailing is great but the real fun is the journey getting there.

Thats what Im thinking, maybe just use the paint work cleanser and not the scratchx. I have used the Paste Glaz for a few years and thought since I have only used the paint cleanser once, that I should get rid of all the old crap.

thanks for the advice
