Pink16

Well I had a chance to go to Atticdogs house this past weekend and we had a chance to melt a custom blend ala Scottwax of Meguiars 16 and FK1 Pinkwax. But we both had a full tin of each so the blend is 50/50. I used it on a 2005 Mercury Milan on Sunday and the car looked more wet and deep than using just straight 16. It also was alot easier to remove, and has a strange purple hue to the wax.

I loaded pics i hope this works

basically yeah, we needed something to put the wax in to melt it so he had that laying around and we used that. Didnt want to put the wax in anything of value because i would not want to eat out of it again :D

So you basically let it melt in that glass jar sitting in boiling water? How long did it take? Any fumes?

I'm nearing the end of Nattys and P21s and thought about mixing the two like that. I also have low tins of Blitz and 3M Show Car Wax that I thought about mixing.

Just don't want my kitchen to blow up or wreak like a chemical factory!

yes we put the water in the pan then packed the wax into the jar a let it melt it took about 15 minutes maybe? the PW melted before the 16 did. It did stink a little bit but that is mostly because 16 has such a strong solvent smell.

No problems with blowing up, just take your time this has been done before with no problems

That makes me curious how/if a P21S & PinkWax blend would work? Hate to screw up a significant amount of P21S though.

Actually, it is Pink Wax that has the strong solvent smell, #16 smells like crayons.

Let me know how the 50/50 blend works, mine is 80% #16, 20% Pink Wax, basically because that is what I had left in opened tins of each.

Since Meguiar's stopped selling #16 in the USA due to VOC regs, does melting it (or the other wax) release any inflammible fumes?

I'd hate to blow up if those fumes reached a pilot light or open stovetop flame. Just because it didn't happen yet doesn't mean it can't.

When I melted Collinite before I used a makeshift double boiler. I had a pot of boiling water that I suspended the glass mixing cup of wax in. The double boiler method should be safer than using a direct flame..... see post #30 in the above thread.

Ya know when I melted my 70/30 blend of #16 and P21S, I just smashed the wax up in the #16 can and heated the can from the bottom with a torch and then let it melt and put it in the frige. Whole process took like 5min.

Do you stir the mix while it is in liquidish form?

How do you get it out of the glass jar?

yeah we moved it around a bit to make sure the wax was totally melted.

Just poured it into the tin

yeah Scott I will deff let you know how i like it, I am going to strip the 3 coats of 16 on my mdx and apply the 50/50 to try and see a difference in the paint

thanx for the tip!
