Picking up new car tomorrow

This is my first post on this site. I have been obsessed with the appearance of my vehicles for years. It's refreshing to see that there are many others like me out there... spending way too much on polishes, waxes, PC buffer, etc. I'm going to like it here.

Anyway, I just bought my wife a new Altima 3.5 SE. Color is called Super Black. I'm salivating at the prospect of having fresh, perfect paint to detail. Any recomendations on the best way to make this baby shine? I can go the AIO + SG route. Should I add some PS to top it off? How much polishing is required on a new car?

Don't let the dealer prep the car!!!! Chances are their $5/hour wash boys will swirl the crap out it and then you will have a major polishing job on your hands.

Hi HouseOfShine,

If it's not too late, call them today and tell them not to prep your car for pick-up. I have to agree with ShowroomLincoln, they will do more damage to your paint than good. Especially since you have a black car, it will show all the imperfections they will cause. There are many horror stories about dealers prep jobs.

Unfortunately no. I suggested the 5 speed but she says she doesn't want to have to work that hard at driving. Her car her choice.

I think it's probably too late. The dealer most likely has it prepped by now. It's a very reputable dealer so I'm hoping that they do a nice job.

Assuming that the paint starts out in good shape what steps do you recommend to protect it and make it look great?

Man the choices you have ...brand new car....products products products.

I did this to my truck when I bought it last year:

Wash with Dawn.

Inspect paint for swirls & contaminates.

Clayed to remove contaminates. (no Swirls but if you have em get rid of them.

Apply polymer sealant per directions to paint and wheels.

Drive Drive Drive!!!!!

I suggest getting the E-book and then reading through the thousands of threads...There is enough info on this forum to answer most any question anyone has I bet.

Good Luck

I have a black Elantra. They did a nice job preping it. Put pinstripping on it. Armor all on the dashboard, vaccuum. Washed and waxed the exterior. Looks like they put some time into it.

But I know where some of you are coming from. I have heard horror stories of people getting their cars dirty and in overall bad shape.

I gotta say that I'd rather get the car dirty than washed and armor all 'protected'. Then you've got to remove swirl marks and also figure out a way to remove the armor all...

I like the armor all for the dashboard only. From my personal experience, it works well and last a long time. I do mine every 6 months or so. I don't know. I happen to like that shiny look.

Personal preference I guess. My dad hates that crap as some people do :nixweiss

jrh382,

You might want to look into other products (water based) that can give you the shiny look without damaging the plastic like armor all does.

303, Vinlyx (I think) are a couple to check out.
