Top half is clayed, bottom half isn't. I went over many of the spots again on the top (there's a few spots left in the pic, just wanted to show the comparo). This was done on a brand new 2 day old 2005 Ford Excursion.

I can sympathise man. I have a white Navigator, and it's NO fun to clay. But, lucky you really only have to do it once if you keep up on washing, waxing and stuff.

Rail dust anyone??? :scared

Ford has a real problem with that. I recommend all my customers with Fords insist on an ABC wash the instant the car shows up at the dealer. I believe Ford even has a TSB concerning rail dust and ABC washes.

Does this mean the dealer will do it for no charge?

They should. I have a customer with a brand new Mazda6 that had rail dust on it and I told her before I clay it, she should have her dealer do an ABC wash, which they did at no charge.

We should save this as a sticky...when someone asks why they should clay Matt's pics should be the answer.

Ahhh the wonders of clay. That is an excellent example of the value of claying a vehicle. Such stark contrast! Great job!:up

What is an ABC wash if I may ask?

More elaborate explanation: A= strong base (neutralizes acid rain), B= sorta-strong acid (removes ferrous deposits like "rail dust"), C= neutral/normal wash. I clay during the "B" step while the "B" is dwelling on the panels.

The "ABC" decontamination system is from AUTOINT , but the FinishKare stuff might be easier on the vehicle's glass due to a different acid in the second of the three steps. ABC has worked well for me though, just gotta use some common sense.

MattZ28- Yeah, that *is* a great example of the value of claying :xyxthumbs

sheesh. I need to do that. I have a white car..it's just about as bad.

I wanted to test the results...first time clay users..I did one section...looka a billion times better than the rest of the car. So I'm gonna do everything I can reach sometime before I hit the snow.

my car looked that way off the lot as well..except mine also had nice swirls on it from the kids at the dealership washing it.

as of right now...it really needs a nice wash. clay. wash. wax. topper. Before winter is 100% set in. Sucks for me is that I got knee surgery and I just can't move around well enough to get it done. boooo.
