Phantom Black Audi RS4

Beautiful RS4. I loved every bit of it but I was very tired after filling all the rock chips. I probably filled in 50 (or more) rock chips and two large scratches. I then wet sanded and polished and I am exhausted. Everything took around 14 hours and the end result was amazing! Sorry the pictures are pretty terrible...I really need to work on my skills and take it out of Auto.

nice work! what did you use to fill the rock chips?

I actually need to do the same to my car. How does one go about this? I am sort of an amateur so wouldn't want to attempt it unless its quite easy!

Regards.

awahl63- Great job, and that was pretty quick too (considering everything you had to do). That was a lot of touching up, and metallics are a PIA to get decent :xyxthumbs

Flygti32- Some people, myself included, just don't care for the PPF (I do have it on one of the dog-haulers). As the museum curator said: "real cars have stonechips" :D For some reason chips just don't bother some people (like me) all that much and it's not like they actually cause much trouble as long as the vehicle stays well-maintained.

99ITR_SC & ajnavo61490- There are some threads on touchups that are well worth the dreaded search. It's a kinda tough/lenghty thing to explain, so rehashing it isn't all that feasible ;)

Getting metallics to touch up OK is just *so* difficult :( My one painter works miracles, but mine always look like [crap] from most viewing angles (if you stand on your head they might blend in great).

Go to paintscratch.com and fill out your car information. They'll send you matching basecoat + clear coat.

I would search for a thread by Picus about filling in chips. His write up is much better than anything I could type up.

looks great! :bigups

Filling in chips is fun ;). Thanks!

Why would someone not have a 3M stonegard clear bra put on a car like that? great job on the chips.

I, like Accumulator, was not a big advocate of clear bras but I am now. I am just too lazy to deal with filling in/wetsanding chips on my own vehicles.

Thanks! I have been working much faster as of late and I am very glad. I had much better luck with getting the touch up to look good on the RS4 than on my Santorin A4. I need to give it another go on my car before I have the front end repainted.

Thanks for the compliments guys.

Ah, used their stuff on this one huh? Cool that it matched so well. I've found that some of their paints match *great* and others match so-so. And their clear seems to have a limited shelflife..pretty thick stuff too, not that that's always a bad thing..

Ever tried to thin their clear? I tried it with lacquer thinner and it didn't seem to work right

Heh heh, well, I guess it's easy for me to be all :grinno: about the PPF since chips somehow don't bother me. But you can guess what the fronts of our vehicles look like :o

Wonder if it's one of those colors that PaintScratch just doesn't get quite right  Eh..if it were mine I'd just leave it until it gets awful and then have it repainted, but I bet most Autopians would be pretty :nono about that idea :D
