I just recieved in the mail some poorboys Professional Polish and EX wax. I was fairly confident in the detailing I was about to perform, until I read the instructions on the Polish..

".... FOR BEST RESULTS: Use in a back & forth motion by hand ...."

Wow. I'm floored. What happened to "Wax on Wax off" -- This seems to be more "Paint the Fence" than anything else. Am I misreading these instructions?

:welcome Welcome to Autopia.

Some recommend a back and forth motion to lessen the chance of induced swirls (or to make them less noticeable). But if you applied these by PC it would be a circular motion anyway. I think the bigger key here is applying them to a properly cleaned/prepped surface and using a good applicator. In another thread some users confessed to using circular motions w/o noticing any problems (induced swirls).

It might be Zaino that recommends a horizontal (as the wind blows) motion for hoods, trunks, roofs, and then a vertical motion on the sides to enhance gloss (but donâ€â„¢t quote me on that one).

Bottom line, if applying them in a back and forth motion seems totally foreign to you try a small area using circular motions and see how it turns out. If it looks OK then go to it your way grasshopper ;)

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't read your first post close enough! The above applies to waxes and sealants. For a polish use a back and forth motion for best results. I also doubt that Poorboys Professional Polish will remove any but the most minor of paint defects. You may want to give this a read:

Thankyou Mr. Miagi for your help. It seems as if my paint gets swirls 'just from the wind blowing' ;) Not to mentioin it's ability to attract door dings [7 in it's first year!], so, I'm willing to try anything to get rid of them.

If this doesn't work, I'm just going to have to find somone on here in the Orlando area with a PC thats willing to make a buck and help me out.
