Perfect plate frames harder to find - Griot's

Just got word from Griot's that they are phasing out their super-high qual. stainless plate frames. It was always nice to get these, take them out of the plastic envelope and put them on the car (with the clear cover and bolt-hiding caps). Haven't looked for a different source for 15 years.

Anyone know of an equivalent 4-hole polished plate frame out there, with a flat clear cover (no "gasket" or "bubbled-out" covers).

I just bought two new VW's, and might have to restore my old plate frames now.

Just found this company...never even heard of it...

You mean these, right?

I have used similar frames for years from this company:

Quality license plate frames and more!

I haven't used the Griots frames, but they look identical. Stainless steel, bolt hiding caps, clear flat plexiglass cover.

Here's a link to the specific product I had in mind:

Yep, those are the Griot's ones. No 4-hole left, and they are phasing out the item.

Thanks! The Autoattire ones look to be the same. Do you know whether they have the four, rubber adhesive-backed washers (lets you apply to two or four holes on the back of your plate to level it out). I guess I can email them.

Thanks again.

I don't belive they do, most of the ones I've bought have the LEXUS script across the bottom, those have two little places on the bottom where they have felt bumpers that rest against the car. I also have a plain one with two bolts on the top on the Jeep and that one also has the feet, but I don't know about the 4 hole.

I use self-adhesive silicon bumpers from Lowes/Home Depot/etc. The not only help get the plate closer to parallel with the mounting panel, but also hold it up away from the paint so it's easier to flush dirt out from behind it (and blow the water out with the compressor). Different sizes make it possible to adjust things for different vehicles.

Great idea! For some reason, I get picky about my plate frames being just right. My Wife is a little more relaxed, but she sees how it gives the car that little extra touch, so she likes the stainless frames as well. Speaking of air drying, i've got a Metro dryer on the way - the 8h.p. one. Can't wait to try it... should be better than the regular Metrovac or the Shop-vac motor.

Got the Autoattire ones in the mail. They ARE the same, which is great. They did have the "adhesive washers"

and you can order extra bolt-cover caps, since they don't last as long as the frames do.

Hey Concourswanna, how do those plate frame's compare to these? ClearCover® Product Education Center | WeatherTech.com

Are they better, same or worse?

Not sure about the W.T. ones. I've been using the same ones for years. The W.T.'s are probably great, as everything I've seen from W.T. is really good qual. One thing I don't care for, just as a subjective thing, is the "oval" holes that retain the caps. Most wouldn't care at all.

Anyway, the W.T. floormat protectant deserves more attention on here. It really does somehow dry to a non-slip coating. The company seems to have a pride in what they make, based on the ads they put out.

IIRC that stuff is made by AutoInt/ValuGard....wonder what's in it

Well, it seems waterbased. There's some beading when the mats are hosed down without apc. I couldn't quickly find any msds sheets out there for this dressing for either company, but I'm pretty happy just buying it through W.T.

But speaking of ValuGard, I just ordered the ABC kit, and arrived the next day. Crazy. All of our vehicles are getting ABC'd in about a month.

ConcoursWanna b- Sure hope you like the ABC, considering how I'm always telling people to buy it!

And FWIW I have no problem with people buying stuff from WT, they're one of those companies that I like to see succeed.
