perceived marring

Can perceived clearcoat marring actually be only to the protectant layer? Simply states...I see straightline marring on a vehicle only under very very specific lighting, is it possible that what I'm seeing is imperfections to the protectant layer (sealant/wax/whatever)? Or does that not happen?

I don't think you can see "scratches" to a layer of wax/sealant. I don't think it scratches, it gets removed. What do you think caused the straight line marring. Does the vehicle get run through a soft cloth car wash?

Very interesting point, but I cant see how you can see scratches on a top coat that is only bonded to your paint on a molecular level. The scratches you are seeing are most definitely in the paint.

Interesting thought though......

I've only had marring that was limited to the LSP *one* time. That was *very* light micromarring (very hard to see, had to get the light and viewing angle *just* right) in multiple layers of KSG.

I figure it was in the KSG because after I redid the area with AIO and SG the marring was gone, and the paint in question is too hard for AIO to have affected any correction.

The only way that you are going to see any type of "marring" in an LSP is if it wasn't buffed off well enough and the resulting "marring" would be the product streaking making it appear that there are straight line scratches.

Nah, in my case it wash clearly wash-induced marring that appears over the course of months on previously well-buffed SG. But I'll readily admit that this was just a freak occurrence and the other 99.99999% of the time it's real marring in the paint.

But OTOH and FWIW, Ron K. at AutoInt claims to see this somewhat regularly on vehicles with many layers of layerable LSPs. He sees a lot more vehicles than I do and has been at this even longer than I have, so I defer to his opinions most of the time.

Nope...

I don't know honestly...I've owned it about 18 months and it's always been relatively marring free and I noticed quite a bit the other day only under very specific lighting...The marring was straight line so I'm curious if maybe my wash mitt had some grit on it that I didn't see or my WW drying mf's.

Heck maybe I did it while applying OPS, that's the last thing I did...
