Peeled off clearcoat

I just discovered a patch where the clearcoat peeled off. It's about 5" x 1" in size. The paint underneath looks fine. I was thinking about filling it with clearcoat and sanding it down like it's a really big paint chip. Is this a good idea?

Where is the patch located?

I would say if it's on a small pannle or piece of the car like a side mirror or a spoiler or sumthing, then I would just get it repainted.

But if you're going to get it repainted anyway, might as well try that. It won't hurt, I don't believe. Maybe someone else has more experience with clear coat failure?

Clearcoat does not blend well with older clearcoat. You will notice the blend lines after a very short time and it will look horrible. The "new" clear typically takes on a hazy uneven look.

If the clear is gone, it's toast. Time for a refinish.

My main concern is that the peeling will spread. Eventually, I'm going to get the car repainted but not now. What's the best way to stop the peeling or is there a way?
