PC pass speed

How fast or how slow should one go over the paint surface when working a polish like SSR2.5 or 1 with the PC. Does this make a difference in the final outcome?

i would say go slow and work the product until it breaks down . try one spot real slow and one medium speed and compare the results . trial and error is the way to master your process . also dont run speed 6 unless you have to because its real hard on the pads . you cant do any damage to the paint with a pc so go for it and post some pics..

I spread the product on speed of 2-3 and then immediately kick it up to 5-5.5 and work it until the product disappears and the shine is coming out. It's ok to stop and check your pad for product and dampness from the product. If the pad is still damp with product, return the pc to the finish turn the speed down to start and then resume at the higher speed. This is for both SSR2.5 and 1.

Are you talking about the speed of passes?? If so you can see the speed of my passes (SSR2.5) by the ribbon left in the polish here (PC speed 5):

It does vary by the polish and what I need to remove, but the more you use the PC the easier it will be tol figure out what works best for you and the situation.

wat should one look for to know if the product is breaking down?

Here is what SSR2.5, IP and PO85RD look like breaking down when I use them

Great info blkyukon. That pic gives me a good idea on how slow to go. When I worked Z:PC last time I worked my car, I worked it to the point that it almost disappeared, then let off pressure and used the pad to buff off the remaining residue. I probably was creating more swirls by doing this because of the pad being so dry.

Looking at blkyukon's pics, would you say that the polish could be worked longer or is that a good time to stop?

Remember, this is SSR2 and other polishes might look different when finished.

The best way to tell is to work the polish in is to wipe a small area off and examine it. If you still see hazing, etc. then work it in more and repeat until the desire result it achieved.

My best indication of when to stop is when you see the first sign of dusting. I work SSR 2.5 until I see a little dust, finish the rest of the pass, then stop, wipe down and inspect. Repeat as necessary. Don't keep going as it will dust like crazy, if you get too much dust it means you worked it too long.

I usually work it until i see the shine popping out while making a pass.
Dusting is not always an indicator of the polish being fully broken down.
Other causes of excess dusting can be too much product, the pad clogging up, and sometime I've seen it just by using certain cutting pads. the softer pads seem to significantly dust less.
