PC Pad and Product Database

I was wondering if such thing exist and if not would you guys and girls like to create one. I was on autopia about 3 years and I am barely starting to get back into it. I don't even remember my old username.

It seems like there is much confusion about which pads work with which products, and since there are so many pads and so many products (many of which use confusing terms) I thought it would be great to have a database where you can look up what combination to use by pad or by product.





Propel (Exceldetail) Green Light cut pad:

Use with #9 SMR, #80





Propel Blue Polishing Pad:

Use with #7 Show car glaze. ClearKote Red Machine Glaze





Propel Orange Aggressive Pad

Use with 3M FI-II.



Propel Yellow Med Cut Pad

Poorboy SSR2.5





Please feel free to add your pads and the products you use with them to my list so we can start a easy to understand database. I hope with your help returning newbies like myself can look up pads and product without posting the same thread over and over again.

This sounds like a great idea. I wish I had something to contribute. Maybe this has already been created and we need to find it. Otherwise, I would agree, let's come together and make a "sticky" document for newbies to refer to.

This idea of yours sounds promising if we can get everyone to put their two cents in. I'm really new to detailing so I'd like to find out myself what products are recommended to use with what pads.

4* SMR with green Propel



Then...

4* UPP with blue Propel then again with black Propel?

The link I provided above your post has a good description of the Propel pads and type of products they are used for.



I've never used 4* SMR, but from reading its' description on the PAC website, then I would agree to start out with the green pad.



You want to use UPP with a finish pad, so go with the Propel grey (black).



The problem with a database is the products (including pads) changes so fast it would be difficult to keep up to date. The informal list I keep on pads went from 10 to about 32 in less than a year, and that doesn't even include the edge brand pads yet. HTH

Foam Pad Selection: Lake County Mfg



Polish / Cutting Pad (*Yellow)-a harder more dense foam composition with an abrasive cutting action, for use with a medium abrasive polish, Machine Polish 1 or 2, Swirl Mark Remover, or Autoglym Paint Renovator Polish (Speed number 4-5)



Polish / Light Cutting Pad (*Orange)-a mid range, high density foam composition with a medium abrasive cutting action, for use with a Swirl Mark Remover, Pre-Wax Paint Cleaner, Klasse All-In-One, or Autoglym Super Resin Polish (Speed number 4)

Levelling Pad (Wool):

Are made from ¾-inch 100% natural lambs wool (do not use synthetic wool) are usually used to level a paint film surface with an abrasive machine polish (compound) or to apply a polish to large areas

Wool pads used wet or dry have the greatest cutting ability and they also produce the most paint surface `compounding haze'

I think a list/database like this is a great idea but could get ultra long if you try to relate every pad to every product. The main problem is that a product like SSR2.5 can be used well with both a cutting pad and a polish pad. For someone (like me) with limited products and pads using the same product twice with different pads can really help.



Basically I am trying to say that SSR2.5 and many other polishes could be listed against yellow, orange or green. So taking the abrasive list and adding 2 or 3 pads for every product (and maybe two or three makes per pad type) will make it HUGE



Instead I have tried to simplify things with a table linked to the 1-10 scale in that list to either pick a pad then a product to match or the other way around.
