PC, Meg Plastx, headlight polishing

After reading all the polishing plastic headlight lens threads here, I decided to give it a try. This is a Mitsubishi Montero Sport that spends it's days outdoors.

Products used, not shown a microfiber cloth for finishing up:

Here is a close up of the before. You can see the UV damage and the haziness from the sun. Not as bad as some I've seen in person and on these pages

Dabbing some on the PC

Aftershot. Lot's of the haze removed. However, upon turning on the lights, I noticed some scratches and some deeper "haze". Another application and pass didn't help. But I am satisfied with the results all in all about 15 minutes spent on this mini project. I may try the sanding and polishing method next.

The lenes came OEM factory with a slight smoke tint to it. So it will never be "clear" like most lenses out there.

Try it next time with a 4" orange pad on your drill first. You'll be surprised how much cleaning and correction can be done with the Plastx. And then do it again with a white pad on your PC to increase the gloss of the lens.

Thanks for the tip, The reason I used the PC is because I have to justify the purchase with my wife as much as possible:bow

and I don't have a variable speed drill or the adapter plates, yet.

I did this, being bored on a Sunday afternoon and seeing if this would work before buying a specialized headlight restoration kit.

I just did some headlights using the UDM / 4-in orange pad with Mothers Mag and Alum Polish followed by a white pad and Mothers Plastic Polish.

They turned out pretty good and was a simple justification to purchase the UDM !!! It has paid for itself if I was going to replace with new ones.
