PC & Edge Pads question

I recently decided to give the Edge system a try. I picked up the pc adapter and 2 of the combo pads (blue/white and green/orange). I've tried them out on my cars a little but nothing extensive. Tonight I had a change to use them on a Lincoln Town Car. I used the white pad with some Paint Cleanser and loved how the pc felt and worked with that pad. I next used the green pad with some Menzerna. I did not like this at all. Possibly it was the stiffness of the pad combo or the thickness of the pads. I've used similar pads before from LC and Meguiar's and they felt smoother. Another thing I noticed is there was no spin with the pad even at 5 or 6. To get any spin I had to just about lift the pad off the car. I'm pretty sure the white/blue pad spun some. I can't be positive though as it felt so great I never paid any attention to the spinning. Is it normal for the edge pad not to spin at all?

I don't know what Menzerna products you were using but here's a thread that discusses using Edge pads with Menzerna SIP

Edge vs. Menzerna

Hope it helps, and you get more information. If you don't, try searching 'Edge Menzerna' and you should be able to find some helpful info.

Honestly, I can't stand Edge on PC. Its absolutely frustrating, and I've been through too many adapters. The vibration from the PC is murder on the adapter and I have had the same lack of spinning as you.

The custormer service is top notch, but it really doesn't matter when the bearings fall out of the adapter time and time again. It gets old.

However, on my rotary, I love it. Hopefully your experience is better with the PC.

P.S. Danase LC CCS 5" roxorz on the PC.

NSXTASY have you heard other users complaining about the Edge system with the PC? I've done a lot of searching about the Edge system but haven't heard any complaints, can you elaborate please? What do you think causes the stop in rotation? I'm close to ordering the complete set which is why I ask, I don't mean to hijack your thread PhaRo, hopefully it can help both of us:)

I was doing a search and found this:

tried the edge 2000 6" on a PC

Basically it talks about whether the pad needs to spin to be effective or not. The original poster had a problem with his pads on vertical surfaces not spinning. Hmm.. reconsidering the Edge pads now.

With the LC CCS pads users have had trouble with the backings I guess, but only ones ordered from CMA

The one question I saw a prior thread was the comment that Edge 2000 pads absorb more product than LC CSS as an example.

Aaron (The Edge) made the comment that Edge makes all sorts of pads but I never saw a response asking for helping in identifying an edge product that did not have the loading issue.

If your ordering a set for a rotary, I def reccomend them. Although I really like a hook and loop BP, it just works, no gimmicks.

I have found that if you dont keep the pad perfectly level, the rotation starts to slow/stop. I've tried new adapters, new pads, and still seem to get it with my PC. The vibration from the PC does not work well with the adapter for some reason. I've had the system since Sept. 06' and have been through 5-6 adapters maybe more, and I'm only a hobbyist. I only use them for AIO's and light spot correction on plastic parts.

Granted, every adapter that has failed, Edge sent me out new ones, however, thats down time and I'm out the shipping charges to send the item(s) to them. I have slowly gotten absolutely fed up with this ordeal and have since switched to LC CCS, and I LOVE THEM. Ive had the same BP in use on my PC for 5 months, no issues and pads are like $6-7 bucks. I can get three pads for the price of One Edge.

So.....yeah. PM me if you have any Q's, but as I said above if this is for PC---Danase 5" CCS is the way to go, seriously. Oh, and if your set on edge, get the 4", I hate the 6" on my PC, even if the adapters didnt fail miserably.

Edit, I have had the CCS pads in use for a couple months and I have had 0 problems, not to mention Danase also has outstanding customer service. :up

i was detailing a car this weekend w/ edge pads.. when one of my edge pads decided to go out. basically the plastic that connects to the adapter became loose and the pad stopped moving while the plastic inside was orbiting the insides to death.

blue chunks of the pad where flying out. :(. i spent good money on these pads to go bad after 2 details.

this was a edge 2k blue finishing pad btw

I hate the Edge system for the PC, havent used it on my rotary yet. But the adapters break, and the pads dont spin. Only the stiffer pads such as the orange and 6" green pads spin. This is because the pads are so thick, more weight makes them harder to spin. It just isnt a good design for the PC, rotary might be a different story. Some people say the pad doesnt need to spin on the PC. Well I disagree, I dont feel that I get the same performance out of a non spinning pad compare to a spinning one. The polish doesnt correct as well nor does it break down as fast.

I have both Edge and LC CCS and I prefer LC!

I use Edge on my Makita - big improvement over velcro. PC- I can see where they might fail more since you're putting more pressure on it and it's doing more than spinning like the rotary.

I too use Edge 6" on my rotary, fabulous to use. I can understand why the PC would be too harsh for the edge system. All that vibration can mess all those sensitive parts up. On rotary they're absolutely great to use.

If only they would come out with a CCS type foam pad, that would be awesome.

I've noticed that the blue Edge pad has difficulty spinning as well. It has me wondering if it's working as it should be and whether I wasted money on it. To even get it to spin sometimes it's like I have to almost lift if off of the car. I've been ok with the yellow and green though.

Yep, blue and white dont really spin. 6" green actually spins better then 4" green which is weird. There have been times where I get so frustrated with Edge 6" pads that I do the entire car with Edge 4" pads. They spin a lot better.

update on the pad situation .. called autogeek.net where i bought the pads from.. talked to tom at tech support.. told him what happened and now hes sending me a new blue finishing pad tomorrow morning :)

awesome customer care!!! he said edge is using a new glue that will prevent the plastic on the inside to come loose. ill find out :D
