PC Backplate Rotation

What's that smell?
I have a PC with the holes in the backplate so you can really see the rotation. When you turn it on without pressing it to the surface of a car the backplate spins like crazy. Is this supposed to do this? I know we had a thread on this topic before, but I can't seem to find it. Thanks for your help.
 
Yes it will spin freely. There is no torque behind this spinning. With the machine as high as 6 you can still hold the pad in your hand and stop it from spinning.

This is normal and natural and part of what makes this machine so safe.
