PC at speed 6?

I was applying DACP on 5 then after working it in with the meguiars cutting pad i turn it up to 6. I then noticed that the pad started slipping and it was a little deformed. has anyone else noticed this? there was a heat build up on between the PC and the pad. could it be the heat that made this or the meguiars pad aren't designed to spin this fast?

Its called centrifugal force. If you spin the pad that fast then the pad will try to seperate. You know when you tie a bucket to a rope and swing it in a circle how the water doesn't come out? Its because the centrifugal force holds the water at the bottom of the bucket. That is what you are doing with the pad but there is no bucket to hold it together. If you don't have it pressed against the car then its is possible that the pad will just fly apart at that kind of speed. Especially if the pad is wet or starting to wear out. Its nothing wrong with the pad. Just don't run it on 6 while its not on the car. If you feel the pad is about to fly apart then its time for a new pad or maybe the one you are using needs to be cleaned out and dried.

Meg's pads were actually designed for ROTARY use (yes, even that size). They don't really hold up all that well to the "jiggling" action of a RO like the PC and the heat build up you noticed is the result of friction between the backing plate and the not-quite-firmly-attached pad. For PC use, I get much longer life with pads from Lake and Griot's.
