PC 7424XP handle issue

Hey all

I bought the PC 7424Xp and I loved how it works but when I received it, I tried to install the handle on the side and there was a felt washer that came with it. The threads on the handle seem kinda short at maybe 3/4 inch long. When I added the felt washer I could not even start the threads. SO I did not put it but when I had it at max speed it virbated the threads to pieces and now the handle is usless on the left side. I still have the right but I don't want it to happen again.

Anyone experience this problem? I am thinking of using a helicoil to fix it as I would have to pay for shipping back to where I got it online.

I was using the 6.5 pads with 5 backing plate.

I appreciate any help.

i tried using the handle but at speed 6 it vibrated like crazy for me. i dont even use it. i feel more in control when i put the pressure down in the middle. good luck. elk

You know elk42 I have to agree with you on the most part. I just think that the handle is nice for the odd time but will be ok without it if I have too.

Yes, I also recently bought a PC and the handle on the left side would not go in. Bummer since I am left handed and liked using the handle.

Figuring it was too much of a hassle to return, I will either take it to one of the service centers, not use the handle, or become a righty.

Either the handle bolt is too short, or the housing is off center. Goes into the right side just fine.

Here is a URL where you can find a shop.

I contacted the company I bought it from online and they contacted Porter Cable. Apparently they made a bunch of handles wrong. The company called me yesterday and they mailed out a new handle with a much longer thread on it.

I prefer it without the handle at high speeds but at times its nice to have the handle.

For who ever has the same issue I am sure that if you were to contact porter cable they would send you a new one as well.

Thank you for that. It is the best solution I have seen to straighten this out. Glad it is just the handle and not the unit that is not put together correctly.

Are you sure that wasn't the spacer that goes on the shaft behind the backing plate?
