Can I get the Porter Cable in stores? I live in Sacramento. If not are there any good alternatives that I can get instore? Thanks

:welcome to Autopia.

Check places that sell woodworking tools/supplies. Not too likely to find ‘em at Lowes or Depot anymore but it wouldn’t hurt to look.

Any version of the Porter-Cable will work, 7424, 7336 or 7335. They’re all the same basic machine. You may need to buy a Velcro backing plate. If the tool store doesn’t have a Velcro plate any body shop supplier should.

Maybe try calling these guys:

PC.

Just watched the video. I think the flex is better then the pc for removing scratches/swirls. But I don't think I need that much power right now, my car paint is fairly new, had car only a couple months.

I just need a machine to help cut down time on waxing/polishing, would the PC suffice? Thanks

your better off ordering the PC from detailedimage.com, autogeek.net or amazon.com. When I first wanted a PC I looked at stores. Average price was about $160+ tax. You can get it for around $110 w/no tax and with free shipping on autogeek.net

Man where were you looking. The local hardware shops here sell the 7424 for $100-110.

The makita is $160

I went to "Berlands house of tools" and a local hardware store in the suburbs of chicago. I had one a distance away for $120 but I didn't want to drive that far. Homedepot and Lowes don't carry it.

You had to see the look on my face when they said $160! They wouldn't match the online price, so I walked out.

This should help.

Also it is very easy to use and causing damage is pretty difficult. I mean you can always swing it overhand...

Love mine.

FYI I got my PC on eBay for $100. Still consider it a mistake. I should have gone with the Flex to start. The PC is ok. It is definitely better than doing the work by hand! However it vibrates your hand numb, takes forever, and does not breakdown the polishes like my Flex does.

My advice is start with the Flex and graduate to a rotary.

Would you still recommend the flex over the pc even though I don't need to remove swirls or scratches?

YES use it @ 1/2 power now and it will act just like a PC

then in a year or so when you want to do corrections you will

have a more power then PC to do so

Not to sound biased, but I have a Flex I am willing to sell. It is new and still sealed in the box. Got it as a gift, just as I ordered mine. Thought I would use it as a backup machine, but just don't see the need to have two on hand.

Anyone interested. PM me. I live in area code 17201 and would settle for $200.

These two threads are similar. You may wanna read the comments here.

Get a Flex not a PC no matter the work. You will be glad you do. The starter kits are awesome!

I've got a PC I will sell you and I am in Sacramento. I've used it a bit but not abused. I've got the counterweight, wrench, manual, etc. There are some scratches on it from setting it on the ground. I just got a Flex and I am practicing with it now....on my black paint!
