PC 7424 coutnerweight

Hello all,

I just recently received my PC 7424 in the mail today. Along with it I received a 6.5 backing plate and 6.5 white LC CCS pad. Upon inspection of my new toy, I noticed the counterweight stated use "5 inch pads only". In other forums I've been told that you need to have a 6" counterweight to use the 6.5" pads. Just to verify I've contacted the website it was ordered from and they stated that it was stamped by the factory this way and the company(porter cable) was aware of it and that it was still possible to use with a 6" pad. In addition, to that explaination I was told that the stamp was based on using a lambs wool pad which happened to be heavier than foam pads.

Can anyone out there tell me if that statement is true or not? Your thoughts and advice are greatly appreciated! I don't want to use the PC yet for fear of messing up my paint. Thanks again!

well,.. it will not mess up your paint because of of the CW!

but it might vibrate a little more!

some people notice a differance with the different CW

I do not.

I have two PC's one with a 5" and one with the 6"

and I have used several different BP and pad sizes

and there is not much of a fifference

F.Y.I. the info about the wool pads is along the correct line

but it in not correct, the PC is a sander and the CW refer to a BP with a peice of sandpaper stuck to it so the any pad that is used will be heavier than that

Thanks Jim for your reply!

Good to hear that having that counterweight will not have any adverse effects while i'm polishing my car! :nervous2: Soon as this rain stops around here i'm ready to rock and roll! :thx
