parallels between autopians and audiophiles?

Any of you autopians also audiophiles? I can think of many parallels between the two fields of interest:



tube amp = carnuba vs solid state = synthetic LSP



realization that room acoustics play the largest role in how music sounds (rather than cables, power cords, etc.) = realization that paint prep is more important than the particular LSP you espouse



questions about which amp is best suited to a particular set of speakers = which LSP looks best on what paint, with other products, etc.



Just an observation... any of you ever think about this???
 
I believe this is true, but primarily due to being a perfectionist. I was an audiophile long before aspiring to be an autopian. Myself being a lazy perfectionist is especially troublesome.
 
Being that my previous day job was with a high end custom A/V and home automation company I can definitely see your point... but I think autopians might be a touch worse b/c our obsession requires a lot more physical work.
 
I can see the parallels in detailing and other hobbies including cooking, computers, etc. Each one has a certain process that must be followed in order to achieve optimum results.



For the record, I am a self professed audiophile that has VERY particular taste in equipment. The same goes for car audio. Many people that know me will tell you I am extremely picky/fussy when it comes to sound quality because I believe a home theater or any audio system should have plenty of impact but sound clear enough to enjoy certain musical notes from instruments such as violins.



BTW: Favorite Home Speaker/Receiver Combo is B&W/Yamaha RX-V/RX-Z series.
 
I am a autopian and audiophile as well. I think it does have to do with being so anal, and the fact that if you are part of one forum, and you need help with something, you join another. That is what happened with me, I joined this one, then I wanted to put a stereo in my truck, so I searched for a caraudio forum.
 
I think I put this best in the Photography Thread drift...

I think it has something to do with a obsessive personality for perfection. The same thing that lets me listen to a kick drum track for 15 minutes making minute adjustments or use the rotary multiple passes on a scratch... that 95% of the population probably wouldn't notice in the first place.

Being a professional in both audiophile (recording/mix engineer) and autopian (detailer), I totally see a connection. For me, one is a day job and the other a night/weekend job but both are satisfying and enjoyable. I do both right now until one or the other takes me to the next income bracket. ;)



Go ahead and give me 6 hours with a black BMW 3-series or 6 hours with a straight-up rock track. I will do it for fun, but it's a bonus I get paid for it. :nana: I just realized recently that it didn't really matter what business I got into, as long as I enjoyed it I would make it successful.

Definitely agree. And do not forget $$$$$ pure ivory 101% carnauba waxes = $$$$$$ serpentine power cords :grinno: altough I don't known which one is most useless as price/quality ratio is concerned...
