Pair of black W12 Phaeton’s, Major Paint Correction and Long-Term Coating

RaskyR1

Rasky's Auto Detailing
This new client contacted me back in April about a pair of W12 Phaetons for full detailis and paint coatings. We ended up going with my Premium Exterior package as well as a full interior (not pictured) and long term paint coatings. Both cars were in need of some major correction.

Car #1

50/50

All done

Car #2

50/50 After initial correction, no finishing yet

After…was getting dark and about to rain. :(

Thanks for looking,

Rasky

RaskyR1- Nice work, sheesh that must've taken some doing!  Gee, those aren't too common, and here you had two of 'em.

What's with the "B"  on the wheels of both cars?  "B" as in Brabus, "B" as in Bentley, "B" as in Borbet?  I'm out of guesses...

Interesting....a quick google search turned up people are putting Bentley rims on these Phaetons

Thanks Guys! A lot of polishing hours went into these two and I was beat after I finally finished the second one.

Yeah, they are pretty rare and this owner said he had 4 at one time but two of the had the V8's.

Correct. I didn't know for sure if they were real Bentley wheels so I asked the owner and he mentioned these cars are based on the Continental GT and Flying Spur platform, so a lot of parts can be swapped out. Having detailing the Flying Spur right after these two it was crazy how many similarities there were. What's even more crazy is that there was a 2004 W12 listed for sale locally to me with 39K on the clock and they were asking $17,900!!! Unreal how cheap you can pick one up for! A nightmare to work on, but a very impressive car for dirt cheap. :)

Ah, so they *are* Bentley wheels!  Eh, :P

Yeah, lots of compatibility between the Bentleys and Audi/VW...with a huge price diff for stuff that's actually the same (my Audi service manager suggested that I compare brake work costs, and then compare the actual parts involved  ;) ).

And yeah#2, heh heh...the buy-in is cheap enough, but guess why- that's just the tip of the iceberg.  Sorta like how it is with my beloved A8/S8s; we're gonna keep ours forever, but no way would I ever buy/recommed somebody else's used one no matter how cheap.

These both have extended warranties until 2017 he said....only way I'd own one. ;)

Those cars are beautiful. There was some small article in Car & Driver a while back about these have the Bentley platform, and how they are now affordable... I've considered buying 8 and 10 cyl. used Phaetons in the last few years... but I just didn't want to jump into a potential money-pit situation, after learning from the BMW E34s I had (still loved those cars though). I think only a few dealers had techs who had Phaeton training when the cars were sold new over here.

I "think" they might still sell new ones in Europe. Maybe they will show up again over here at some point.

This got me thinking about the "Piano Laquer" option that I remember hearing about... found some info. on it, but it's on a VW enthusiast forum, so not sure if I should put a link up here.

Anyway, the "Piano" "Klavierlack Black" option meant more coats of clear, apparently.

The owner actually brought me info on the piano black finish. They basically painted it, sanded it down smooth, and added 2 more coats of clear. It was actually nice paint to work on and it was pretty smooth, especially compared to the newer cars today. The 2nd car had several repainted panels, but the first was mostly all OEM.

Man, that's quality.

Somewhere, somewhere, I read that, oddly, the cars had crazy rear trunk hinges, so I just looked it up, and let's just say they are nicer than Jetta hinges.

What a cool car - I enjoyed your post.

LOL! The hinges were the first thing I noticed! I had to show my buddy and my wife because I thought they were so cool!

For everyone else :)

RaskyR1- Hey, those hinges are even cooler than the ones on my Audis, I'm envious!  Nice that somebody else appreciates such details.  Being anodized/whatever, those'd be easier to get/keep nice than the painted ones, which can take forever to get right and LSP.

Heh heh, when people say they do a wash in 15 minutes, I can't help but wonder how many of those minutes are spent such areas ^_^

Zero!!! :D

I actually timed myself the other day on doing a rushed (which I dislike) ONR wash on my new truck and it still took 30 minutes and another 10 with wheel faces and jambs. No idea how people get it done so fast....

A poor MANS BENTLEY ... had a 2004 with 150,000 on it ... going over alligator alley at 100+ you thought you where in a Bentley ... never had really any major problems,, Went out to eat in Miami... valet parked it came out it was gone !!!

Loved that car the paint was unreal that piano black.... Hopefully by 2017 VW will have one on the road @ $150k
