Paintless Dent Removal

I have a medium size dent in the drivers door that has not damaged the paint at all. Half the dent is below the plastic trim and the other half is above (Subaru Forester). I wasn't too stressed because I thought it looked like a pretty easy fix for a Paintless Dent Removal (PDR) guy (at least to reduce the appearance).

I've got it in at the panel shop now to have the hood resprayed and they had a PDR guy look at it - he aparrently said it could only be fixed by drilling thru from the back to get access because of the panel configuration/intrusion bars.

Can't these guys use some kind of suction device to pull the dents out from the outside? Would appreciate some second opinions? :think2

Will post pics tomorrow...

Cheers!

Yes, they can use suction cups, but here's the caveat. The metal has stretched around the dent. When it is pulled out, it will likely now be a raised spot. They then need to tap it back with what looks like a huge nylon pencil. When they remove from the inside, they basically just press the sheetmetal into position, repairing the damage. That is really an artform. (One day..I want to learn it, too.)
