Painting Advice

I want to repair a couple scratches to my car (and a small rock chip that's starting to rust). So far I have:

OEM Paint

Grey Primer

1500 grit wet/dry sandpaper

800 grit wet/dry sandpaper

I'm afraid if I don't clear coat over the paint, it's just going to chip again. From what I was told, Honda uses a urethane clear coat, which is difficult to find. Does it matter if the repaired paint is covered with an acrylic clear coat, which is more readily available? Will the urethane and acrylic clear coats blend properly? If not, would you recommend using clear nail polish instead (as some have suggested in the past?)

Thanks in advance!

the finish between the two clearcoats will be a little different, but you want some type of clear on that repair spot to protect the paint. You may want to go to a bodyshop ans see what they think before doing anything yourself.

if your panel is starting to rust you should consider sanding down to bare metal and apply a self etching primer to that spot as you may know rust is like cancer it will start spreading. As far as paint chipping it comes down to how well you prep the area. I would too suggest consulting a body shop.
