painted rims chipped at lug nuts - what to use?

It had to happen sooner or later. My factory charcoal painted HRE rims are scratched/chipped in the lug holes from having them removed at several shops for various work. Although they all say they used torque wrenches and not an air ratchet, there is circular damage where the paint was chipped off. In the chips, it is a rough white below the paint surface.

I don't want to take it to a shop to fix because it was actually AT supposedly the best bodyshop in DFW to have the rims polished. The car went back but came back with the old chips poorly painted and new chips :( If it's going to be damaged anyway, I'd rather save my money and have myself to blame.

What kind of paint should be used to fill those small chips (1/2-1 inch in length, 2-4mm in width) in the lug holes? Does it even matter? Can you just use touchup like you would on your hood? Does the area need preparing and use of ? It's rough white where the paint chipped off, btw. I know nothing about painting.

Thanks for any tips!

I am sorry to hear about your misfortune and the shops' carelessness. If I were you I would do one of two things.. . go back to the shop and politley but firmly tell them how unsatisfied you are with their quality of repair, asking for the labor it takes to do it right to be comp'ed. . . . or. .go to a local auto body supply/color matcher and ask for a matched color for your own possession. Chances are this problem will continue to happen over the life of the wheels. If you choose the later, consult Davids tutorial on curb rash repair. The procedure/tools should be similar enough. HTH.

this is why i never bring my cars to a repair shop for any thing where they need to take off my wheels, or i take them off and bring the wheel to them.
