Paint thinner for touch-up paint kit

Hi guys,



I got a touch-up paint kit from VW with paint and lacquer. I want to use it to "touch-up" some stone chips on the side of my doors but in order to do this with a very fine brush I would like to thin the paint a little.

I don't know what type of thinner I need, nitro, alkyd...



What do you think is best?

tonipieleanu- NO good ideas from me...when I tried diluting my Audi touchup paint with lacquer thinner, the results were less than satisfactory. I'm quite confident it was *not* enamel, so why the lacuer thinner didn't work better is a mystery to me :nixweiss



Maybe it'll work better for you...hope you post back about your experiences with this.

I'm also thinking about lighter fluid (naphta)...

Anyway, I'll update as soon as I find out morw.

Heh heh, yeah...it sure is! But even Ron might be a bit :nixweiss about what's in the current VW/Audi touchup paint.

I'm also thinking about lighter fluid (naphta)...

Just guessing here, but I'm pretty confident that'd be a bad idea.

Maybe you'd be able to control the paint as is with a brush as in this kit: Paint Touch Up Kit - Restoration - Car Maintenance - Griot's Garage



they are available on their own or there's a similar thing in art supplies.

See if you can get an MSDS for it from VW. I've had decent results using acetone as a thinner for touchup paints.

Don't know.

None of the car companies actually produce their touch up kits, they source them like other parts, so it would have depended on what company supplied the kit and their choice of paint/clear.

I have about 20 different colors and two tubes of clear, all use lacquer thinner for cleanup.

Yeah, lacquer thinner cleaned up my brushes fine, but the thinner just didn't..oh, what's the word?!?...mix in 100% with the clear for some reason..almost like an oil-in-water situation. Eh, one more of life's imponderables :nixweiss And yeah, who knows who was making up the VW/Audi touchup paint back when mine got mixed.
